MTN Black Friday Discussions

I suspected RICA was the issue. I even mentioned it a few posts back. Even my initial attempt RICA was the problem even though it saying active on the system. Thanks for the link Uzairb

Okay so on the MTN App and online it says my debit order was going to be R239 but this morning R273 went off. Anyone else have the same thing?

Seems the Dual call sim uses a different number but can receive calls from the native sims number if that sim is not active/not answering.

Also gets sms's which seem meant for the main sim which I thought wasn't possible.

my main sim is in the router and when called it goes straight to voicemail

That's actually great news! We ported my wife's number to FNB about two months ago (just before they upped their costs). Anyway, we want to port her number to MTN now and set it up as Dual Call on the R149 BF deal. We have the original SIM in a router, but it'd be amazing if she could use the minutes (and data) of the BF deal.

So here's my question - what's the best way to go about this? Do I port her number to MTN first and then apply for Dual Call or do I get the Dual Call working and then find a way to port her number to that SIM card?

i was meant to do it as well since her contract ended end dec

Went to the store atleast 5 times in the past 2 weeks. Just deal with one person, or it gets even more messy. I worked for iTalk some years ago, so know pretty much some of their processes.
They had Activated the Dual Call sim pretty much the same day, from what i gather their RICA process is messed up and it sometimes jams, they did mine over 3 or 4 time in the 2 weeks. Quick way to find out if your RICA is done, see https://rica.mtn.co.za/quicksearch.aspx (check both the primary and secondary numbers)
They had also logged USD queries twice for some other team to check it out.

Thanks for the above - so how do you find the secondary number?

Impossible, you can only port a number to the primary sim, the dual call sim is assigned to an arbitrary number. You could perhaps try port the number to the primary sim and use that in a phone and then use the Dual Call sim in the router, seems despite what has been speculated the 50gb data is also shared on the dual call sim, when I look at my useage the 500mb native data bundle hasn't been touched and I have been using my Dual call sim for data for well over a week now.

If you are billed on the 15th each month the new data/airtime is only loaded on the 15th each month as well?

Nope. You're billed whenever you specified, month end for me. The minutes etc renews on the 14th or so for me each month.

Why would the default be the middle of the month, every other contract I've had the bundles are loaded on the first of the month, ie 00:00 of day one?

Can anyone else confirm this?

My 2 sims receive their allocation on the 6th of the month. Debit order date is the 1st of the month.

MTN seems to do things completely differently to the other networks - first time I have had a taste of their network in contract form.

I'm also a first-time MTN customer and I've just got the same info from customer service. Apparently my bundles all refresh on the 15th, but my invoice date is the 2nd. And I activated my account on the 23rd. It's completely bananas, but that's how it is.

Also, their pro-rate calculations for my Wowza Wednesday 50GB and 10k minutes are not correct. Seriously, who writes their software?!

Has anyone had a really long call to an MTN number and then seen it actually comes off your monthly "normal" minutes and not the 10 000 MTN TO MTN mins?

I get my bundles on the 14th and my debit goes off on the 25th

I'm rather fortunate I didn't flatten my data bundles on New Years eve like I planned, thought well I have a whole lot left over may as well smash it or lose it. Thought as with any normal/sane network operators the new bundles would be loaded on the 1st...
