MTN Black Friday Discussions

lol want R519.00 for 200gig anytime data.....told them to get fcked.....paying R355.00 for 250gig, will have to wait till the BF deals come and then try retentions
Got an email today offering to upgrade me to 120GB anytime data for R219

Trying to get info to see how much of this 120 is shareable vs being padded with their "streaming" data

Yeah I phoned them again to find out how to cancel and what the cancellation fee would be (R659) which isn't too bad. but will do it next month. Retentions tried to offer me 250gig for R419.(Paying R353) They wouldn't budge on a better deal or package.

Besides that MTN entirely pissed off today, it is practically impossible using a prepaid number to call them, the automated system basically loops to death. FCK that shyte. Had to take out my sim from the router place it in my phone and then call them to get a actually fcking person. Freaking daft.

Either way dropping MTN like a sack of shyte they are.

Used vodacom website to get 400gig 200gig anytime and 200gig night data for R399.00. Approval/credit checks and application done without speaking to a single person. (Absa is having system issues so can't do the debicheck thing currently)

It is 50gig less than I currently get, but that 200gig night data is quite useful as I often up at strange hours, so it won't go to waste.

Pity been with MTN for 12 plus years and its clear loyalty buys you fck all.

Very wise, yes! And I really wonder if their systems are robust to allocate the data usage correctly when you're streaming. Would be difficult to track this ourselves.

And this is why you never trust MTN

The initial email told me:
You are currently receiving 50GB anytime data for R294.
You can also upgrade to 120GB anytime data for R219.

And they were pushing me to say yes to this deal
Getting further info
Please note that the offer is for 100GB Anytime Data at R219 per month, on a 24-month contract.
The data allocation is as follows:
  • 50GB Anytime Data (shareable)
  • 50GB Streaming Data for services such as DStv, Netflix, Disney+, and similar streaming platforms

It the exact same Mobile Internet Platinum package being offered slightly cheaper

They are heavy into the streaming data boat now....They know the streaming data is useless for 90% of users....they can pad their profits.

and not too long ago they were bitching and moaning about these streaming sites

what's the best data option for dual sim phones? maybe it will make sense to just keep my mtn sim for calls (I need about 300 minutes) and use 2nd sim for data

Thats a good suggestion and theres lots of options if you split calls on one sim and data on another sim. So many mvno options so have a look at those as well.
Foe data it Depends how much data you use. I share my data accross multiple sim cards (i think max is 5) with mtn mobile data and that is what i would recommend.
Vodacom has something similar but you have to pay to share your data and vodacom yearly increases has been between 9-13% for my one data contract with them, wouldnt recommend vodacom.

Pretty much what I do.
Contract SIM for data, heavy bundle, 200gbs odd shared with 2 family members all of which are on pay as you go Sims.

1 SIM pay as you go for voice calls, sms etc top up when and if needed at greatly reduced pay as you go rates.

And the saga continues

Sigh with the vodacom order decided to get a vodacom sim and just do a quick test and see what is what. Well don't have volte, nor wifi calling and the back of my property barely has signal. So in my infinite wisdom decided fck it going to cancel the order. Did that on the same day.

In hindsight should have tested first any ways, yeah cancelling a pending order is near impossible with vodacom took 5 days to cancel it, but that is only after I managed to carpet bomb all their public facing emails addresses, used AI to scrape the internet for those. By 12 noon yesterday cancelled lol. Serves you right.

But that is half the story, the debit mandates with ABSA getting them cancelled when their system is fcked as well.

But I am also really pissed off their credit inquiry resulted in trigger marketing, within a few hours of the application I got random calls for loan offers, store credit cards.

This whole thing with vodacom left a bitter taste in my mouth, fcking never again. So might as well suck it up get the Vaseline and see what MTN can do for me, already have the offer for 250gig for R419.00

It isn't terrible, just with their mid contract increases is going to balloon a bit, and that makes me squirm as the end of the day I am going to end up paying closer to 500 by the end of the contract.

Pretty much checked every where else and pretty much in excess of 600+ for month to month data.

Had the same with MTN. Did not have a contract with any network for about 15 years. Signed a sim only contract during Black Friday last year. Since then almost daily spam calls for new/more/better contracts. I will patiently wait until next BF to upgrade.
In hindsight, it was a data contract. I should not have given them my primary voice number as contact number. Should have used a prepaid sim.

I am seriously considering changing my mtn prepaid number now. It is listed as my primary contact number on credit unions I don't like that **** one bit. I have had the number for over 18 odd years now.

But it isn't that easily with banks and shyte and OTPs for websites, password recoveries all that stuff I am literally married to this number till death.

Changing the number is harder than adjusting a woody in a speedo at this point......

I have an MTN contract so when ever I upgrade and stuff they do an internal soft credit checks this doesn't trigger an inquiry on your reports and thus no trigger marketing. Fck credit unions. I actually fired off an email to the credit unions this morning to expunge that inquiry.

Even fcking FNB phoned me yesterday wanting to upgrade my account and offer a revolving credit facility......Credit unions is there for one thing to sell your data.....

Just got off the phone with retentions

They are offering me a similar 100gb deal for R259
However their deal seems to be way better

Instead of padding their deal with "streaming" data
They are offering the full 100gb as anytime data with 30gb shareable

I would push harder.

I phoned them again nothing changed they do have a 250 anytime deal for R419.00 I know that for a fact pending how much time you have left left I would wait and phone them again next month. There are peddlingly their steaming data with the launch of their video service hard at the moment.

I am waiting it out, 250gig is perfect for me don't need more data was kinda hoping for a better price.

Honestly you should push a little a harder if they don't give wait a bit inform them vodacom has a better deal for 200 gig at 200gifg anytime and 200 gig night see if they budge

Getting the full 100gb without streaming data was me pushing
Initially they wanted to move me to a 40gb package because they looked at my data usage

But yeah im still going to try them again and see what else I can get
Im already being hounded with calls from normal MTN upgrades trying to make their commission

I would move to Vodacom but the fact you need to pay to be able to data share, R125 extra just to share to the 5 numbers im currently sharing to is not realistic

This I my primary internet, while I still play in the kiddies pool ( with my speedo of course) when it comes to usage I average around 5gig - 10gig daily, I pretty much burn through the promotional data and half of the normal allocation on average I have 50 - 70 gigs left that carries over to the next month. and off we go again.

Don't tell them someone else got offered 250 gig this or that, ask them what is the best deal you can offer me for 200 - 250 gig.

Standard upgrades have a 200 gig anytime package for 519, retentions have a 200 gig one for 389 and the 250 gig for 419.

If they come with the spiel based on data usage we can offer this or that. I would personally tell them that this has become my primary internet and I need more, please check if you can offer me something better.

I really can't do less than 250 gig.

Plus I now have an interesting problem I need to sort out with customer care. I had two contracts with MTN, the one number had a better offer than the other and requested that deal be applied to the one I am currently using for internet, which was the secondary contract, the primary was converted to prepaid and I stopped using that number, however the system still has that as my main number, even with the number being disconnected from the network....

So my OTP gets send to the disconnected number whenever I want to do something with MTN. I know fcking retarded ?
Getting them to remove that number is going to be an absolute beatch.....

I have an MTN contract so when ever I upgrade and stuff they do an internal soft credit checks this doesn't trigger an inquiry on your reports
On my last upgrade end of last year they ran an external credit check, not with Experian though, one of the other bureaus
I've had a contract with MTN for the last 10yrs and the new upgrade was actually cheaper than the old contract so no idea why they did that.

I guess it depends, but generally all credit unions send me a email or sms letting me know a hard inquiry was done....I have yet to get one with MTN
