I am finally within the last 90 days of my contract - and have called 808, and then the Cancellation department, I plan on porting to Vodacom, and have made it clear that this is my notice to them, they have said notice is not necessary when porting.

Anyone know whether this is some sort of ploy, so when you phone at the end of your contract to initiate the port they say you need to give notice?

At least I have a reference number, where I specifically get the woman to say that no further notice is needed.

I cannot wait to be rid of this service provider, over the past 15 years, I've gone through them all (except Cell C), and MTN tops the scales on bad service - actually, I can't really call non-existent service bad.

I had a chat to the lady who arranged our ports from MTN to Vodacom here at work. You need to fill in a porting form at Vodacom on which you will specify the porting date. So if the last day of your contract is say 15 May then you specify the port date as 16 May. I would do that a month or so in advance. Once she filled the porting form in she then notified MTN that the number would be ported on that date and that was that.

Thanks, I'll do that :)

Counting the days... Out of interest, what would be easier, going to VC prepaid, and then going to a contract? Or going direct to VC contract?

Was going to stay on prepaid, but work requires a contract for billing or something odd.

I don't think you can port to pre-paid.

Sounds suspect to me, I recently tried to cancel a contract 6 weeks before termination date and was told it was too early and that I had to call again closer to 30 days.

Get them to take you off their debit order system while you're at it.
You can pay your final invoice via electronic transfer when you eventually get it.

I think you can, just not on the same network.

You can port from Contract to Pre-paid and vice-versa. My number was on Pre-paid on MTN, I ported to Virgin contract now I'm about to port away from Virgin to Vodacom pre-paid.

Likewise, once your contract expires on a network you can choose to keep the number but as a prepaid number but they'll give you the runaround if you try this as they'd rather keep you on contract.

Yes, but have you tried migrating from MTN contract to MTN pre-paid?
They claim it is impossible, they suggested I port from MTN contract to Virgin and then after three months back to MTN pre-paid.

Thats what I thought, but I have a reference number for the call where the guy told me within a maximum of 90-days.

And I had this woman repeatedly tell me that I do not need to call again - and I made sure I got a reference number as proof.

I'll make a 100% sure and phone 32 days before hand again... can't wait

Why on earth would you do that
