What that lady says the second time is shocking..
She says I have 500 million three hundred thousand two hundred.... then she stops.. probably cause it is impossible that I can have that little airtime and that much data...

Hi Anthropoid

There is currently a problem with the 141 IVR. Not sure if you heard of an MTN prepaid promo called Yello Fortune. Basically it rewards prepaid customers with points and these can be used to claim rewards etc. Your priceplan is not eligible to participate in the promo, but due to a bug in our IVR, it is giving you an astronomical amount :-) This will be rectified soon and there wont be an option 2 available.

Option 2 on the IVR is supposed to be only heard by prepaid subs.

Regards

Why can't they just give me that data
I am taking over the contract I have from my mom (MyCall 100) then I will have to buy a nice big data bundle to satisfy my internet crave.
My wireless is only coming in about a months time from www.wifilink.co.za (Local South Coast company)

Help with MTN connection please!

Hey there!

I connect my pc at home to the internet via mtn using my k800i as a modem, which works fine normally. But lately I've been having a problem viewing websites. The connection I've created connects to MTN fine, but neither Internet Explorer, or Firefox will display any site, even though they are both configured to use the active connection. Is this because MTN has been having technical problems, or is there perhaps another reason? Any help please?

Thanks!

Private VPN over MTN 3G

Hi MTN Data Dude,

I have spoken to numerous MTN agents over the past 2 days and without any luck, no one were able to assist me in enabling APN tunnels on the MTN 3G for a private VPN.

Any suggestions or help would be welcome.

MTN Data, Upgrade and communications problems

Hi MTN DD,

I have several issues with MTN regarding data that I can’t seem to solve through any private channel between myself and MTN, my service provider and network operator whom I pay to provision me with services, requiring me to make my problems public in an attempt to find a solution, an unacceptable situation really.

I use my MTN connection extensively for business connection purposes, including email. I don't use MTN's SMTP or POP for this, but rather my own server hosted in the states. Mails are reliably sent and received except that the mail server I use doesn't allow me the option of masking the ip address that my mails originate from in the email headers. This means the header of the mail contains my MTN connection IP address. The problem with that is that many MTN IP's have been flagged as being connected with possible spamming and my emails are often blocked by spam detectors.

I have called 1555 about this problem, but to no avail. Today I was told: " Our email server is busy being upgraded which will solve this problem". I realise that to find call centre people with the in-depth knowledge needed to respond to all calls is difficult, but when they don't know the answer rather refer the query to someone competent than pretend to know what you are talking about and annoy your paying clients, leaving them with no path to resolving the problem.

My questions really are:

1. I believe it is possible to be assigned a static IP address on the network to aid certain networking requirements certain clients may have. How do you go about applying for this?

2. Does MTN actively monitor the presence of their IP ranges on spam lists and attempt to have them removed?

3. Are spam abusers using the MTN network actively pursued and penalised for disrupting the services of the network to other users?

Also relating to data, I recently upgraded my contract at the Rivonia service centre, which took 4 hours. I specifically went there for the upgrade to a specific phone owing to shockingly poor service by ALL JHB based MTN SP dealers in getting stock of the same phone that I specifically wanted. (I waited 4 months for some dealers to NOT get availability, all of them saying MTN didn't have stock, meanwhile I was in contact with the warehouse guys who assured me they did have stock - I even conference called the dealer and warehouse and still they couldn't get it right).

When upgrading our contracts, I asked for data bundles to be added to the contracts, which I was told was done, only to find out a month and a half later when i received invoices that the bundles were not added. 808 and 1555 were not able (willing) to assist me in resolving the matter, both basically saying that I would have to drive to MTN to get copies of all the paperwork I had filled in so I could fax it to MTN to resolve the matter. Sure, and will Rob Nisbet authorise payment for my invoice for my admin services and reimbursive travel costs?

Regarding Dual call, why is it that the second line isn't, and can't be provisioned with CLI? This means I cannot elect to ignore calls I would be better off not answering while driving (road rage inducing calls).

Is it possible to have both Dual call and Prodata on a single line (3 sims)? Are free minutes available for use on the second line under Prodata? When you say voicemails are not available on Prodata does this mean the entire package, or just the second number used for data? Why are sms bundles not available? And does that only apply to the second line? Do you get CLI?

When is MTN going to release twin line sim cards for business and private lines on a single sim?

I have been an MTN subscriber since 1994, but rather than being a happy, loyal and supportive client, I am simply frustrated, annoyed and feel MTN as a company don't give a damn about their clients. I cannot understand why the company I have tasked with enabling my communication requirements is the worst company with which to have to communicate (yes, worse than the bank, insurance company and even local government!!).

Please can you assist me?

@calsim,

The more popular DNS block list providers flag any sort of dialup address as spam automatically, the netops generally provide this info. to prevent spammer from using dialup's to send spam directly in the first place.

Having said this requesting a static address probably could solve the problem, I don't however think any of the mobile SP's offer this service.

If you want to resolve this, sort it out with your EMail provider or alternatively you could just find a service that relays' with masking.

Damian

MTN IP's listed as spam sources

Thanks for the reply Damian24. I hear what you are saying, however my colleague sitting in the office next to me, using MTN to connect to the internet, does not have his emails flagged. Of course, we checked to ensure that it was the IPs assigned to my number when we couldn't find reference to my email address on any spam sites.

Generally, my phone seems to connect using the same IP address (I can't say for certain it is always exactly the same one, I don't check that regularly). Bottom line, I need the problem fixed, not excuses given.

Where is MTN DD to provide some answers from the supplier's side?

Using Sony Ericsson K800i with 3g to connect to internet, not getting 3g speed. Help?

We have K800i with 3g MTN sim. Using it as a modem for connecting to the internet. Using Skype to speak to friends in the UK, want to also connect webcam, but we are not getting any good connection speed. The phone is connected to our laptop via USB cable to a USB 2.0. We dial *99# when dialling up to the MTN Data service. What are we doing wrong?
