Hey guys

just a quick question, had to upgrade - handset is on the verge of needing a brand new battery - got a call from MTN after looking at upgrade options, settled on a handset - they gave me a monthly fee, now there's a debicheck for almost 3 times the amount. I did receive a message from MTN (it's from their usual text channel) that mentioned the amount will be more on the debicheck but that it will not reflect the actual agreed upon amount.

I can't for the life of me remember ever having to approve something like this before, but I got my current phone way before the pandemic so, is this normal - if so, what is that difference for?

Thanks for your time :)

It's normal.
It's a variable debicheck agreement, and it gives them some leeway should you incur out-of-bundle expenses, subscription services etc.
