MTN expands 7.2 Mbps HSDPA coverage

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: MTN needs to step up to the plate on this forum. Whatever happened to the MTNDataDude?

He is driving around in a Bakkie helping clients in person with coverage problems.... Same with Snakepit. Pro-cative maybe ?

MTN has various contact points if you need resolutions. If you don't like the help I give in my personal capacity just say so...

I'm here to help people with problems on MTN not sell MTN to the world on a forum.

I didn't say that. All I'm saying is that MTN needs to put someone in here with an all round knowledge [in an official capacity], similar to what Vodacom have done.

Doing a better job than what can be done by featuring on a forum! It's because of the work done by him and his colleage's that my mom has got 3.6Mb reception and not just lowquality edge! I'd rather have somebody driving round and actually do something about problems than sit on a forum and sort out issues that can be sorted out in an MTN outlet.

To do what ?

Sell MTN ?

If your an MTN subscriber and have a problem, billing or network related I'm here to help. And get things done. I do it via PM and allot of people on here can confirm that. (It's not even my Job ;)) You guys are smart enough, I don't need to tell you how to switch a PC on or how to see what speeds you are getting, and how many HSDPA towers we have.

I'm here to provide a customer service to the MTN clients, they are entitled to that. I'm not here to psuh numbers and sell MTN. Marketing is doing a great job at that, they don't need my help ;)

Why if I may ask? What diffirence would it make? What would that person be able to help you with that a call to the callcentre or (a bit more effort) a walk to an outlet would not be able to help you with?

+1 Million

Ty Mieliespoor. I'd rather have them on the road now than post useless tower numbers and things on the forum... But hey, that's just me :o

Please explain how you did this! I was under the impression it could only manage 3.6.

Just checked the Huawei site and only mentions 3.6.
I have 2 users with brand new E220 modems (from VC), when they connect, it also comes up with "Connected at 7.2Mbps"
I also didn't think they CAN do faster than 3.6Mbps.
But... it doesn't really matter? Our experiences with HSDPA is that the efficiency is generally less than 50%... so chances are not good that you will even realistically get >3.6Mbps?
Or has MTN improved the network sooo much?

think I might switch to MTN... hope they're as good as this sounds!
don't know if that's such a good idea. vodacom has a lot more 3G+ coverage than MTN. i am sitting with a 1G bundle that will expire with 700Mb still available because MTN has not 3G coverage where i live, so i bought a vodacom one on prepaid instead.

And if I may add. My mom wanted to go to Neotel because of the bad reception she had. I received a number via email oneday where these types of complaints can be directed to. She sent them an email and they came to test and gave her a free Poynting Antenna to install. Now she doesn't even consider Neotel anymore. MTN is fast enough for her, and she can now actually use her webcam to chat to my brother in Aus.

Well done MTN!

your mom was very lucky indeed.
i phone the coverage desk and told them the street behind me is shown to have 3G, but i can nadda in my apartment and i got told mtn has not plan to increase coverage in the area (i'm on the edge) and i should just make do with the edge signal.

Do me a favour, find someone who has an MTN and Vodacom contract, and ask them to send emails to both customer care regarding any problem and see which one helps you first. Then maybe you can put in a word to customer care on how to up their service.

I sent an email to MTN asking about my contract renewal date on the 5th of December. Excluding the automated responses I haven't received any further info. If you want me to forward all emails to you [including auto responses] pm me your email address.

On Vodacom, I sent an email regarding the activation of the vpn apn. It was done with 24hours and I received an email as well as voice mail messages [I keep that sim permanently in my modem] regarding the activation.

When they gave her the antenna they told her that she will not have any 3G reception as it will only be deployed later this year, but it will imporve her edge signal (I must add that it was near impossible to browse the internet so bad was her signal). After two weeks of installing the Antenna she phoned me saying that she has got HSDPA with 3.6Mb coverage.

I agree with you, but just clarify this for me:

Are you talking about Vodacom Service Provider and MTN Service Provider companies or the networks themselves?

I think only your service provider can help you with contract queries.

If you e-mailed me it would have been sorted.

I still don't see what this has to do with having a Techno Junky on the forum  What you mentioned earlier in the thread and what you are saying now is 2 different things ;)

Thanks, love you too. ;) :)

eish, now that I read it. I notice how wrong that came out :D

Didn't mean it like that. What I meant was Personally I would rather have the Technical MTN guys like Datadude and Snakepit on the road helping clients face to face with reception problems than to have the 2 of them posting on the forum with network info.

Sorry mate, didn't mean it the way it came ou :o

yes I believe Airwolf is comparing 2 different situations here...APN's and contract Renewals are 2 different things....

I know, just pulling your leg. :)

I've learned long ago one needs to be sensitive with Honda riders! ;)

I was replying to your post about how effectively MTN uses staff to help customers;).

Vodacom SP and MTN SP are both my service providers. While I agree that the requests were different, MTN customer care should point me in right direction if they can't help.

Give it a shot yourself, with the same exact problem to both customer care services.
