MTN increases international call prices

Is the Nigerian fine hurting MTN? Now the paying customers have to suffer for your stupidity. Eskom situation comes to mind.

I made some calls to Europe on the 1st of January and realised that my R100 airtime has vanished in few minutes. Checked USSD rates and found that now to get usual R0.99p/m R5 bundle is required. Without bundle it is now R1.99. Website was consistent with USSD. Even considering above it was a big overcharge. I purchased bundle and made some control calls. A call to one number was charged R15 instead of rated R0.99 (with bundle).

I logged complain and the they calculated R100+ overcharging to this number. Two months passed and still waiting for refund...

MTN increases international call prices

MTN has increased its international calling prices, with some rates climbing as much as 57%, according to a report.

"We're facing competition on all fronts. People can call anywhere in the world for free, using free apps. Public sympathy for us has never been lower. What can we do?"

"I know! Let's increase our rates."

I have no sympathy for idiots...

They owe too many people, gotta raise funds for those fines somehow ey :)

It's depressing how rubbish our networks are. Vodacom has ludicrous pricing, MTN has awful service and Cell C has a terrible network.

Cell C network is OK as speak.

Cell C had no data coverage whatsoever for most of Walmer in PE, and the area where I live (Mill Park, nearby). After no improvement for months my dad and I asked if we could abandon our contracts. The store staff were sympathetic, and let us go without any trouble.

Doubt I'll ever give Cell C another chance. Being on their network was a deeply unpleasant experience.

Nobody in their right mind uses an SA cellphone to phone internationally anyway...

The weird thing is that is cost almost nothing to phone SA from London when I was using a prepaid Lycamobile sim card. Our networks really suck.

And Telkom mobile is as useless as their landline offering

It should be irrelevant as voice and many data bundles roam 3G Vodacom. Unless Vodacom is also s$it^y in your area too.

That agreement between Cell C and Vodacom didn't exist when I was a Cell C subscriber. Even if it did, who's to say Cell C wouldn't believe their worse than useless coverage is enough to not warrant costly Vodacom roaming? Something tells me Cell C isn't keen to use Vodacom in urban areas if at all possible.
