MTN mum on billing problems

I've been with MTN for ten years and have been very happy with them until recently. They really should come out and be honest with their customers. If your data counter is underreporting please tell me so that I can find another way to track my usage.

I know people say all providers are bad but MTN are going through a really bad patch at the moment.

I suggest going through your latest statement line-by-line. I also didn't have problems until I actually took a look at my statement!

I should. I haven't checked, as I luckily get a threshold where my work pays up to a certain amount - and my account has always been below that amount. But I'll definitely check!!

Fundamental issues - SARS should investigate

Quick copy from one of my MTN statements. No worries about double billing etc...Just wondering how their financial systems can stand up to our legislation with the following fundamental error...

20/4/2009 - Opening Balance R 675 Debit

30/4/2009 - Payment - Thank you - R 1365.40 Credit
20/5/2009 - Invoice - R702.60 Debit

20/5/2009 - Closing Balance - R1377.60 Debit

Don't really need accounting degrees to see the error here. Anyone up for class-action, I'll support!

Instead of having basically a 0 balance, I suposedly owe them R1377.60...

I've never had an issue with MTN, but then it seems I'm the lucky one - this isn't good to say the least. I have influence (as the tech-savvy one) with many people (friends, family, work colleagues) - I'll definitely mention this at every opportunity I get. I believe in credit where it's due - and the total opposite for MTN if this is their attitude.

so who`s your contacts .. nudge ...nudge ha ha tell us

A friend of mines cellphone bill is usually R500 a month, he has a separate data card, when all of a sudden, MTN one month decide to bill him just over R6000.

Their attitude? Pay up or we disconnect you and blacklist you.

yup same with me i had to pay up.

It seems the billing problems are data related? I.e. if you are only making use of the voice service you are ok?

My problems are data related and I think it started when they introduced roll over.

Look guys, its not just billing problems, its a whole lot of issues that spans from high costs to *** customer service and all networks are included! I really wish we could stop using any of their services for just an hour or so in protest of this ***, just an hour I'm sure they will feel it.

mtn are such screw ups, they havent debited my girlfriend's account for 2 months now, although i have phoned to complain, received ref: numbers, still the same crap, and she cant even use her phone, and they not interested in resolving it...i am sick and tired of their service, i will no longer be recommending them to anyone in the future!

Yea MTN has not billed/debited me since April, i had to go into a shop and pay manually. After the 3rd complaint i was told "we're giving you a opportunity to review your invoice" . So all that tells me MTNs billing is so messed up they now just stop billing completely [without telling me], leaving me high and dry having to run around trying to figure out what to do...i mean WTF am i suppose to do? Should i wait till they eventually suspend me for non-payment (this is what was about to happen) or suddenly bill me for 4 months in one go???

If i could port my account -right now- i would freaking fill in 10 pages of papers, i would go for HIV tests and whatever is needed....but nooo stupid ripoff contract systems we have here.

At least my data contract is ending, thank the heavens.

Look at it this way, there are no complaints of under-billing plus these consumers had the choice to go with Vodacom anyway :p

I think I was over billed a little on the voice calls and under billed a lot on the data. So I'm being very hush hush atm.

Nope, the billing was for his normal cellphone, that he doesn't use for data at all. He has a completely separate account for a data card.

I am SICK and TIRED of MTN billing. Completely inefficient billing department. I long for November when my contract finally expires.

I canceled a voice contract with them, and they only paid me back the subscriptions they continued to debit after I pulled their own stunt on them... My lawyer sent them a letter of demand, they didn't respond so we got a court order...
