MTN plans to extend data bundle expiration life

Vodacom, listen up too.

I often run out of prepaid data near the middle of a month, and hold off from buying more until the start of the next month, to avoid forfeiting data in the 2 month cycle. I'd probably burn more data if the 60 day limit wasn't hanging over my head all the time.

The Consumer Protection Act must be the best thing since sliced bread. Bring on April 1.

I can guarantee that Vodacom will change the expiry date on their data plans the day MTN goes live with theirs.

You don't even have to phone Mr Uys.

I think it's very obvious that MTN & Vodacom have been running a cartel business in South Africa for the past 17 years.

Can't believe they've ripped off their customers for so long! Imagine loading a 2nd bundle on the evening of day 60 just to find your data gone the next morning! It is theft. Nothing less.

Its a good move but a bit late for MTN ... I went onto Blackberry for the very reason that I got frustrated at my costs for data and losing it and ditched MTN for Vodacom in the process.

+/- half a day.

Why should data expire in the first place? You've paid premium for it why can't you use it when you want too?

MTN's months

I found out recently that MTN's months work differently to that of Vodacom. A month at MTN starts on your invoice date when you take out a contract with them. For some bizarre reason they do not use calendar months.

Once also cannot change these days according to the few help desk agents I spoke to. I guess that is also where the confusion comes in regarding the life time of one's data.

Why does it expire in the first place? Oh yes, I forgot, data gets stale if it goes unused.... fscking retards...

Yes, MTN call that the Bill run date. Mine is the 27th which is quite good and fits me perfectly. This date cannot be changed.

More nonsense.

I wish they would also address their billing issues, which are still a prevalent problem in MTN.

The theft begins with the price.

+1 - have you ever tried finding out what your balance is? It can be very tricky. I often feel forced to actually go into my mtn shop to get basic info.

Their data bundles are so small I usually finish them long before the month is over. Now if they slashed the prices of their bundles that would be good news.
