MTN plans to extend data bundle expiration life

"MTN plans to let your data live longer"

should read

"MTN reluctantly says they might start giving data customers what they PAID FOR... but not yet..."

Corrected

About time, as usual MTN is miles behind the competition. I can't wait for my contract to end and jump ship.

MTN should first get their frikin coverage fixed. I live in according to them a high speed access area. I live in Pretoria and always struggle with signal. Vodacom sim in my phone is Ayoba. Google street view loads in 3 seconds vs. 2 mins on MTN. MTN on a smartphone, not ayoba. MTN on a smartphone will make your calculator seem like high tech!

Did anybody else notice that Vodacom silently changed the way their bandwidth rolls over...when it was introduced and up until sometime late last year, you used your old bandwidth before beginning to use the new bandwidth, then all of a sudden it changed, so that the old rollover bandwidth only gets used after you've completed your whole months bundle, which means that every second month, you can't have any data rollover... a bunch of sly bastards these Vodacom thieves

It was always the way it is now. New bandwidth gets used first. I remember posting about it a couple of years back. No rollover possible every 2nd month.

You pay for it. It should be mine for at least 3 to 6 months.

I don't get it how operators can so easily pull the rug from under my feet.

This is how they respond to Cell C's competitive offering? I'm not saying Cell C has better lifetime for their data, the 5GB on my speedstick only lasts until the end of the month and I usually have to find something, anything to download at the end of the month to make sure I get my money's worth, but seriously, MTN (and VC) should compete on price and not waste our time with this half-baked excuse for improvement. Or am I wrong?

I could never understand why you forfeited any unused data that you have paid for. Isn't it the same when you pay for 50 liters of petrol?

Imagine the petrol station sends pump attendants to your house to suck out any unused petrol out of your car's tank, if you haven't used it within a month.

Doesn't it just sound bizarre? You've paid for something, but then the company steal it back from you?

not to mention the R1 the steal from u every time u load a new bundle, why price yr bundles so there is always R1 over every time!!!

I like the Idea of rollover, but the only rollover I have experienced with MTN is when at month end all its customer have to rollover and play dead after reading their invoices.

I think it's very obvious that MTN & Vodacom have been running a cartel business in South Africa for the past 17 years.

Very true, when one ups prices the other follows and they both have never slashed prices. Cartel!

Finally.

Too late though! I'm off to RBM :D

Agreed. Come April 1, the missus and I are both signing up for RBM and I don't think we'll be renewing our contracts with the other SPs when they run out, bar horrible service levels from RBM. But if my Cell C speedstick is anything to go by, especially after the recent software updates on the towers, they should be plenty acceptable.

Now give us a good and easy way to see where we stand on our usage! Telkom can send a damn daily mail to give usage, why can't anybody else? And no, I'm not opening my notebook up every day to put the SIM into a phone to check the usage!
