MTN reduces uncapped mobile broadband pricing

Every1 has come to the party acept a very old cell phone company that change there colour to red. Well out of all the deals so far i say cellc has the best offer. R100 = 1gig 100sms 100free minutes all on prepaid and you get to keep your R100 airtime. Vodacom vodacom wher r you.

And I thought the dial-up days were over!
MTN really went the extra length to choose a good mix of words to be discrete! Notice the pattern:
1. Where they have mentioned broadband there is reference to 3GB and 10GB or the previous offer.
2. Where they have mentioned throttled or 128 Kbps, their wording internet service.
3. Where they mentioned 3GB/10GB, they shy away from making reference to uncapped.
4. Where they talk about internet or 128 Kbps, uncapped is mentioned.
Good luck if you think you can win by taking MTN to the ASA! On second thought, you might win if you insist that MTN 'implied' whatever.

and Vodacom sits silent.. as always, continuing to rip off their locked in customers

3 Gig uncapped at R299! That is R100 per gig! You must be joking!

I wonder if anyone will bother challenging the uncapped thing with the ASA/CPA?

This deal sounds more like a soft cap to me, not uncapped - I quote from http://mybroadband.co.za/news/broad...uidelines-what-does-uncapped-really-mean.html

"Soft capped Internet access: Service is provided on a metered basis. After the customer exceeds a “soft cap”, they still have Internet access, but significant restrictions are applied, such as limited international access or vastly reduced access speeds"

A reduction from 21.1mbps to 128kbps seems to me like vastly reduced speeds. It's funny how people are adding all sorts of restrictions to "uncapped" packages. Does DSTV switch you off after you've watched too much or restrict you to certain channels? Do people oversees even understand the term, "cap"?

Nice to see them dropping prices... but

WACS is coming soon and I think 8ta (Telkom) is benefiting from EASSY (I could be way off the mark here), also lots of new networks being rolled out .. so things will become very competitive soon (if not already) ...

24 month contract ... no ways, just too much happening at the moment.

Sorry MTN, not good enuf.
Both Cell-C and 8ta offer significantly better.

What's up with this "Fair Use" policy?
If I don't download too much, say 400MB per day, after 25 days you will cripple my connection.
Hardly sounds "fair" to me.

In my book, that's not the normal definition of "Fair Use".

Why call it "fair use" when it's just normal use?

On the topic of "fair", why does your 2GB package still cost R389?
http://www.mtn.co.za/FINDAPLAN/Pages/DataBun.aspx
Is the 2G for R149 over?

Hmmm...

Would the reduction apply to people on existing contracts or is this totally new?

Just my two cents, I still feel that Cell C is giving the best value for money, and unless the Yellow and Blue... erm I mean Red... comes up with something that knocks my socks off, I'm gonna remain with Cell C just out of loyalty :).

Uncapped HAHA, get to 10GB and you cut down to 128K. I think it is high time the ICASA define uncapped. I would belive that uncapped means no limit, don't start with the 'you are not cut off' crap, technically you would be correct but think about it. Like say here is the worlds fastest car but when you have done 20km you can only travel 10km/h, sure you will reach your destination, just going to crap longer.

Still pathetic! But less pathetic! No, it's still more pathetic than pathetic! I hope they get 1 moronic person signing this piece of 24 month junk!

They give you "life support" aka Uncapped (3/10GB) yet they "Throttle" you :p if you breathe too much.

how much can you download with 128kbps about 15gb's?. If MTN got a cutting edge 21mbps network. Why dont cut the speeds after 3/10gb to 1mbps. Then you will how adsl people will jump!

Cum vodacom make a good uncapped. Mtn nokia X3 20kbps eish. Cnt say much! :(

*A QUESTION. Who's signing up? :P

Watch! In the next few days Vodacom will announce a price reduction of some sort too.

The problem with this predator is that debit orders are easy meat for spurious unexplained extra charges. Since moving to Vodacom I pay only for what I get and I've found the same with Cell C since using their data package. WATCH OUT FOR THE 2 YEAR DEBIT ORDER TRAP, ITS THE EASIEST WAY OF DEFRAUDING CONSUMERS!!
