MTN reduces uncapped mobile broadband pricing

Hmmm

I see an possible ASA complaint coming.

They are advertising it as UNCAPPED BROADBAND.

Sure it is uncapped but once you hit the speed throttle it is not broadband anymore since the minimum speed for broadband according to ICASA etc. is 256 and not 128.

So they have 3GB Broadband with uncapped internet and not uncapped broadband.

Just my 2c

Yes, you are right, they should not advertise it as uncapped broadband, but I have no issue with the term uncapped. They should just advertise it as MTN uncapped lite and MTN uncapped Pro
 
It's SOFTCAP!! Come on MTN stop lying! :mad:

An even then it's not a very SOFTCAP! The softcap should stay within the definition of 'broadband' and therefore be a minimum of 256kbps!
 
This is a joke, can't even be compared to either Cell C or 8ta's offerings and Vodacom will probably give the same lame ass offering.
Which these companies can stop with their ridiculous contracts, all we want is month to month contracts (or most of us in any case)!

Although kudos must be given for the price reduction, I don't really care much for these "uncapped, but..." type deals. Baby steps I guess.

No1 want your contract mtn no1 so stupid to do that anymore. But i gues you just need a stupid ayoba add than all da stupid people will follow. O how i hate that ayoba word. Come on vodacom. Since you are the oldest network mayb you are to old for this stuf
 
Theoretically they may be able to call it uncapped but practically it's just a way of misleading people into thinking they're getting more than they actually are. Having their soft cap at 3GB is just ridiculous. 128 Kbps?? That is basically capped and certainly not classified as broadband.

Fine, but it's not uncapped broadband, not even by the DoC's pathetic definition of 256kbps. Even mbb messed up here, titling the article as "MTN slashed uncapped broadband pricing".

I'm sorry mbb, but get it right, please. You're making yourselves look bad.
 
To be fair, offering true uncapped at 21mbps or even 1.8mbps would be an open invitation for the heavy users/downloaders/abusers to jump in and hog the network to the deteriment of all. It's not ideal, but realistically, fair use is a necessary evil to ensure everyone gets their fair share of available bandwidth. So this form of softcap would be an acceptable compromise provided they upped that limit to a more reasonable figure, say 10GB or 15GB maybe for the lite package that is?

Um I think the term is soft-capped. You can't really call it uncapped if you allow 3GB before a very heavy handed rate limit (or soft cap) is introduced. Completely rubbish offering, even at the new price. 8ta and CellC are still a lot better value. Thanks for nothing MTN.

By that token, the 8TA 10 Gig package is uncapped as well then. (technically soft capped and in this case limited to 10% of the monthly allowance, 1 Gig I believe).
