Hi,

I had the ff experience:
My phone stopped making calls so i tried my wife's sim and all was fine. So I take my phone in to the MTN shop and they say the sim has an 'irrepairable error'. Now comes the kicker - they tell me it'll cost R110 to replace. After much 'discussion' with two managers they finally agreed to a 50% discount.

I wasn't happy to pay the R55 'cos I have two contracts with these guys and they take R500 off me every month. My main argument was that I can buy a prepaid sim for R1 while I have to pay R110 for a replacement sim that's on contract!!

In principle, I feel MTN is ripping it's contract customers off.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

They are definitely ripping you off. When I lived in SA I had two sim replacements in a year due to defects. I was never charged. If I was you I would switch to another mobile network when your contract is over. MTN is one of the most expensive networks in the world and their customer service was always rubbish when I phoned them. O2 all the way!
