MTN Speed Test Results

You're forgetting about Afrihost...

Au contraire, I've got Afrihost 10GB for my phone but it's hardly enough for home network use. Other issue is that my LTE CPE is the 2300MHz one, not the 1800MHz one.

Then of course the Afrihost 3+7GB promo ends in November.

How much is your speed test?

Sorry but I'm not sure what you're asking. I provided a Speedtest result a few posts up.

Home (Helderkruin) best case ^^

Mine is 7MB when I test at my speeds. How much is your speed test?

Edit: 17MB not 7MB.

He already posted his results:

I tested MTN LTE from Santon Central, through Benmore, Parkview, Randburg, Honeydew, Allen's Nek and onto Helderkruin - burning through half a gig just on Speedtest alone! Speeds are frikken awesome. Latencies quadrupled past Multichoice but then went back to normal again. I just get giddy at the upload speeds....

I arrive home (only activated LTE this morning) and I've got LTE signal on my whole property. I'm just killing the Internet tonight. Haha!

MTN LTE at my house is faster than Telkom Mobile LTE...and MTN doesn't have data offerings to support it. Fail. :(

Man I wish I could get these speeds at home!!!

No one at my office is using this I reckon, they're all absolutely oblivious. :(

Now that, ladies and gents, is LTE at its finest. It ain't LTE if one doesn't have a magic upload to match the download.

I've had people argue with me that there's no value in a high upload. Well, if you're not obsessed with torrents then fast uploads have high value:

- Forums
- Email
- iCloud and other backup services (Dropbox)
- Internet browsing
- FaceTime / video calling

ADSL cannot offer this.

This is driving through Weltevredenpark on 9th Street. Assumed tower is the Total - Devon Valley Service Station.

Some more LTE speedtests in Richards Bay and Empangeni.....

Care to refine the locations for us? I know both areas well so would be interested to know. :)

I'm frankly surprised that Richards Bay and Empangeni have LTE!

Yeah me too since I was always just getting 3G but then asked for LTE to eb activated on my topup contract and a few minutes later wow ok my iphone is showing LTE..... At first I thought it was a error but the speeds were WAY better....

Some areas covered in Richards bay is Aquadene,Brackenham,Richards Bay CBD, Alton CBD, Meer en See, Veld en Vlei, Veld en Vlei ext, Arboretum, Ricardia and then the R34 at the Eskhaweni turn off..... Yeah there is no houses there not sure why they decided to put LTE there but its blazing fast @ 40Mbps + down and 12 Mbps up.......

Some areas covered in Empangeni is Kuleka/Empangeni rail, Grantham Park, Empangeni CBD

Those I can confirm has LTE. Not sure about any other places but as you can see not a single 1 is on the coverage map but I tell you they have very good LTE coverage.....

Wow ok.... MTN I'm very impressed....

Following areas in around Richards Bay/Empangeni also now got LTE....

Mtubutubu, N2 canefields, Wildenweide Richards bay, Nseleni Township, Esikhaweni Township, Ngwelezane Hospital and suroundings in the township, Empangeni central, Alkant strand beach Richards bay, Tuzugazi waterfront Richards Bay

As you can see that even the rural areas are getting LTE.... I'm totally in shock. Speeds are always 25Mbps + download

Wonder when they will allow prepaid users to use LTE. The network is wow very expanded but I guess minimal people using it....

Boggles the mind. LTE is *not* only in metro areas, clearly. Why keep it a state secret?

Please tell me if I'm doing something wrong ...

According to speedtest, download speed at the moment is 3.3Mbps, so assuming full HSDPA signal all the time, I should be downloading a 50MB file in roughly 10 minutes, maybe 20 max, or am i mistaken with my bits and bytes?

Anyhoo, I'm on about 80% completed after more than an hour, phone is sooooo slow and unresponsive its not even funny, d@mn thing cant even take a screenshot cos of delays when I press ANYTHING on my phone (htc one x, stock, 4.2.2)!!

I'm in epping, cape town. When I can eventually take a screenshot I'll upload it:mad:
