MTN network problems continue into second day

Several MTN customers have continued to report issues with their Internet connectivity for a second day following an upgrade-induced fault on the operator's network.

Scores of customers reported that they could not use mobile data or had intermittent connectivity for eight hours on Tuesday, 22 November 2022.

MTN’s support team on Twitter blamed the issues on load-shedding preventing mobile tower batteries from recharging sufficiently to continue providing coverage during power outages.

As if we didn't have loadshedding before the past few days

Reported data usage on the Afrihost APN on the MTN network is also way above normal. This happened yesterday when the MTN network was down.

MTN's network problems didn't just start yesterday, I haven't had a good signal reception during last week, and in particular on Saturday there was no network reception for over 5 hours. Couldn't make a call or SMS. And, excuse my ignorance, but I actually don't understand MTN's loadshedding problems. Why is it that Rain network and Vodacom network don't face the network blackouts that MTN is facing when there's loadshedding?

What I find weird is that MTN is busy prioritising it's 'R200 million summer competition' all over its social media accounts whereas people don't have network signal. Everytime we complain they ignore. They should be using that R200 million to fix their network, buy generators or get new towers.

its been sketchy for about a month now .but is getting better .it seems to be mainly on lte .3g is fine

That was around 7pm last night! During the day they were saying load-shedding and staying quiet….

I still have intermittent issues in Roodepoort although it is better than yesterday. It is not feasible to have zoom or teams calls with this unstability and I'll have to change networks if not resolved

We are aware of the issue and are fixing the quotas. With the disconnections and reconnections happening at thousands of subscribers per second is was causing a backlog in subscriber mapping for the whole day.

How many MTN towers have no battery or generator backups, this is the reason their update failed

Do you have an ETA of when this is going to be fixed?
