Another MTN employee.

can these companies stop raping the word "uncapped". its really becoming a farce when its term is used and abused in adsl and wireless.
Where the hell is CPA to take on these bastards and fine them with millions for abusing the word.
why not give an exact capped package where you pay for what you get and not throttle/shape or whatever you wana call it.

We need ASA to step in and sort out these issues. We cannot allow these companies to get away with murder.

MTN employee.

Oh wow, troll much do you ?

I would never work for the banana brigade, i just cant take how the so called enlightened people on mybb have become masters of complaining even if a company brings out good deals in response of the others. I agree its false advertising but its still a good deal. AND NO ITS NOT CAPPED, its throttled, read a bit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gazette No. 33377 (Broadband Policy for South Africa)
Clause 1.3.3
South Africa will follow the guideline from the ITU Development Sector and as such
Broadband will be interpreted as an always available, multimedia capable
connection with a download speed of at least 256 kbps.

The Code of Advertising Practice defined by the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa
Clause 4.2.1 Misleading Claims
Advertisements should not contain any statement or visual presentation which, directly or by implication, omission, ambiguity, inaccuracy, exaggerated claim or otherwise, is likely to mislead the consumer.

If what is cited in this article is authentic then this 'uncapped broadband' service terminates after the '40GBs After-hours data' threshold.
I'd call that exaggerated, inaccurate and highly misleading... Consumers are likely think that you can now get uncapped data through MTN just like you can on fixed line networks.

YAW-YAW-YAW-YONKIE!

I still want to know where you guys see the 40GB after hours part.

If they make a competitve alternative to BIS, I will be intrested. At this point, we have people doing 2-3GB for R60 p/m! Most just want to be able to browse and not be scare of a moerse bill.

It's actually after you've been capped. Who came with the idea of after hours anyways? 1 day is 86400s, therefore 128KB/s/8 = 16KB/s, therefore 86400s x 30days = 2592000s. Then 2592000 x 16 = 41472000 = 40GB. It would be a reasonable offer if this 40GB was really after hours at reduced speeds such as 1Mbps.

So there is no guarenteed 40GB after hours.
And going by MTN when u get capped on the 1 day uncapped thing, you will be lucky if you see 128kbps at all.
I think they should remove the 40GB after hours from article & just say u get throttled to 128 / less kbps.

It's capped broadband (3GB) and uncapped (slowband) throttled. It's not "uncapped broadband". Not even "uncapped broadband lite". "Broadband lite" should be something > 256kbps.

What stands out for me is Vodacom's ridiculous pricing:

Vodacom 10GB for R1,845!

By now we all know this is daylight robbery, VC should have fixed it long ago!

So the 40gb is all throttled, wonderful MTN you bunch of snakes, thx for NOT mentioning that. Guess im NOT gonna go sign up
