MultiChoice considering job cuts as DStv struggles

Yup.

There's probably loads of people without fast internet who don't really care to upgrade their internet or sign up to netflix etc. They just want a decent & affordable entertainment service. Dstv can cry all they want about digital destroying them, but a large chunk of their loss is probably due to their archaic pricing structure driving most people away. Be interesting to see how many of their lost subscribers over the last 5 years have been due to a migration to greener digital pastures or just because dstv are no longer affordable.
 
Suggested solution... decrease Premium subscription price and get rid of useless channels/content... also change your Showmax to simultaneous viewing and not limited to number of linked devices, just like NetFlix. Your services should all be available over the net, no need to dish or decoders... but you are getting there with the DSTVNow app...
 
Remember when we used to have mnet and just one supersport channel and how it used to become 2 supersport channels on Saturdays? That alone is worth R400 for me.
 
Their time is up, they just cannot accept that they need to radically change for their changing audience. People today do not want to be told what to watch, we have fast paced lives and our time for entertainment changes radically from day to day.

DSTV is not value in any regard within the modern world. It's a nice to have. Everything entertaining can be retrieved from the Internet on demand, whenever or wherever we want, legal or not. That's the point, it's convenient, it fits in our schedule, and doesn't cost and arm and a leg. In addition, the internet gives us more than mere TV, news, social media, games, jobs, information, knowledge. Simply put you cannot compete with that MultiChoice. I would much rather pay R1000 for my internet subscription.

You have been told, time and time again, but you just keep beating a dead horse. Instead of focussing on the internet revolution, you keep forcing the satellite services that are stupid expensive to keep running, that needs specialised hardware with every single user of your service. There is no option to opt out with this model, so people choose the easier way, generally because most people that are your target audience already has an Internet connection.

You should be scared of Netflix, because you failed to innovate quickly enough. Stop blaming them, business is business, and their business model is better than yours.
 
MultiChoice reduce your cost's by reducing channels and less repeats you know we can record to watch later. Also reduce monthly subs or drop PVR subscription altogether then watch people on lower packages upgrade to higher.
 
Hopefully they will start with the idiots that keep on repeating the same programs over and over again on all channels.
 
In reality most people with premium are paying R999 for sport coverage, anything else is just bonus. If sport isn't your thing then no need for premium. Yes, I am generalising quite a bit here but I believe, its the only thing keeping most of the current premium subscribers, subscribed.

I guarantee you if DSTV had a sports only package or sports streaming service, they'd make millions off that alone.

They need to stop bitching about the competition, and become competitive, or face dying a slow death.

Actually it does, the higher the subscriber amount the higher some channels charge. Sport is the same. There are also channels that won't even bother if the subscriber amount isn't high enough.

I got DSTV for my mother (she likes sport) and I am surprised how bad the DSTV admin website is. It is like they couldn't give two figs. I think this is all a symptom of bad management, translating to bad execution across the board. They simply don't get that the world is changing. And even though some people might say a bad website is only something small... I think it is a really really good indicator.
