MultiChoice considering job cuts as DStv struggles

I take it you don't have DSTV. It's R809 base and an extra R99 for the extraview and PVR access fee. They've got quite a lot of recent stuff, probably more then Netflix (which is normally a season behind). They have also not had any 80s things for about ten years as they got rid of that channel.
The repeats granted are on the international channels, yes the movie channels also repeat maybe twice a week or so. But who watches that much TV?
I've got my PVR and I've got to watch that all first before I even look at repeats. Netflix is great, I can watch that 70s show, Star Trek right through and various other things from the past.
Yes the price of DSTV is really high, but honestly things are expensive I went for a pizza last night with the family and that was R450 and things are just not going to get cheaper :(. Saying DSTV is expensive and they must drop their prices when everything is pricey but it's a luxury and can be dropped. Some people have domestic workers that cost a lot more.

I hear you Lupus and agree that nobody watches that much TV. The problem comes in when we do want to watch for an hour or two and there's nothing appealing at that particulare time.

As an aside it'd be nice to hide channels we never watch from the online guide. Things like Africa Magic, MTV, Vuzu, LifeTime, Eva. Not even mentioning Bollywood, one day we might watch a movie.

You can do that, you create a channel list and just place the channels you want in it.
I normally just watch catch-up or recordings.
 
But would never consider more competitive rates. The greed is ingrained.

How long before they start cancelling locally produced shows?

US $30 is more in line with International rates for satellite.
But they still have to compete with the likes of Netflix.
It's actually a losing battle over a dying technology.

^^^ +1 - works well for me - apart from irritation time FF very long random ad interruptions, and being forced to live with their manic ’ What’s on now / next ‘ popups obscuring every programme screen.:mad:
 
Naspers ZA employees pay less than R350 a month for full premium DSTV. I'm sure they're not making a loss on that. Seems that CAN offer premium at say R400. That seems pretty reasonable.
 
Good, that monopoly has persisted for far longer than it should have anyway..
 
Nobody even thinks to mention emigration as a cause of the premium subscriber loss.... Top tier LSMs are leaving the country in droves. In record numbers. We will only be able to tell the true extent in the next census. If we can afford one.
