MultiChoice considering job cuts as DStv struggles

Was due to happen at some stage..

So many people would sign up, but guess it is not profitable enough for them, guess they are not a volume business *shrugs*
Which is very confusing. Whether DSTv broadcast to 1 or 1000 people, they still have to broadcast the signal and the number of receivers don't matter. Netflix on the other hand has an uptick in bandwidth usage for each subscriber, so it is cheaper to stream to 1 person than to 1000 people. DSTv should be playing the volume game given that their costs don't increase based on the number of subscribers.

But......profit.....so much more...

At its year-end in March, MultiChoice said it lost 41,000 Premium subscribers in the preiod.

Lower-tier DStv packages, however, have seen user growth – but these bring in less revenue.

This is thanks to increased competition from the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime – with MultiChoice stating that Netflix poses a big threat to its business.

^You cannot blame everything on competing services.

The fact that MonoChoice is experiencing a decline with the very expensive DSTV Premium package, combined with growth in its much less expensive arse end packages, tells me that DSTV Premium is simply not affordable for a considerable number of people, some of those people will move to competing services like Netflix, some will downgrade to an arse end DSTV package.

According to a report by the Sunday Times, the company has asked many employees to reapply for their positions.

Is it legal to require employees to reapply for their positions?

Premium package +\- R999, and the dwindling lack of recent content and the infamous repeats coupled with the takkie 1980’s marathons, makes it easier for us as subscribers to move to other forms of entertainment. MultiChoice needs to seriously consider a better strategy to maintain their client base, and become more competitive, instead for just raising their subscription, to very exorbitant values.

In other words, Multichoice is suggesting that it wants to cut staff because it has failed to be innovative...‍♂️

Nearly a R1000 a month...in South Africa in today's day and age... What did they expect!??

Actually it does... Their contracts with some international channels are priced per subscriber.

I lived alone and had compact. My daughter moved in and we got premium. Three months later we've downgraded to compact. So much cwap on premium unless you want sport.

Stating the obvious I know.
