MultiChoice launches new DStv Explora Ultra decoder

They have finally stopped ripping people off for the Wi-Fi dongle? Even a R299 cheap smartphone has had Wi-Fi built in for years!

They just need to do a deal with Eskom!
Ja the dongle was useless without being part of the decoder anyway. No big deal that, there is even an urban legend that the current Explora decoder motherboards had the wi-fi capability already installed just not activated anyway.

Yes...streaming in 4k ... via 3rd parties :)

"The DStv Streama offers 4K streaming capability, which can be accessed in conjunction with a 4K-capable TV set.
Selected third-party applications available on the Streama will offer 4K streaming content, subject to availability and subscription terms."
Yeh, I geddit. But I was referring to the specs of the Ultra. It doesn't specify HDR (for 3rd party content), whereas the Streama does. May just be an oversight / typo, but if I'm streaming Netflix via the Ultra, I would want HDR and 4K, as available on the Streama, and not just 4K.

I would like to believe it is just an oversight or a typo. But we have been burnt before. Do not underestimate the stupidity of MC.

Also quite amusing that MC's PRO Marietjie told us they're done with using names for new decoders 'cos of the nicknames they led to, especially those ending with "aah", and here we go again with Streamaa and Ultraa. Can't believe anything they say.

Heh heh! A blast from the past that is.

Remember what we used to call the first trials runs of the Explora?

The Explodah

... and whatever happened to the DSTV forum? Was such an active community that seemed to be shut down.
They made a new one that they kept low profile, then starved that one, and now it's been "undergoing modification" for ages and they were supposed to let the regulars know when they're ready. Yeah, right.

So when is this Explora Ultra coming out ? It's been over a month since "launch" and still nothing available, not even a pricetag.

P
Whats the USB ports used for?

USB Ports21
probably nothing.
They are there for the show, maybe used when the decoder is repaired. On the Explora 1 and 2A, the port was used for the Wif extender dongle but that is about it.
