DStv Streama launch plans announced

MultiChoice has announced that its TV streaming box, the DStv Streama, will launch by 30 September 2022.

“Due to the ongoing global silicon chip shortage, the DStv Streama launch has been delayed and is now expected to launch in the first half of the next financial year,” MultiChoice said in its annual results on Thursday.
 
Announced in August 2020 and available September 2022.

Have the specs changed in that time? 2 years is huge in tech years.
 
That's a great question @Dolby . Hoping we get the juicy bits in public soon. Any chance someone leaves a box at a pub :cautious:.

I think they keep telling us it's an Apple TV competitor, but looks closer to a Skyworth Leap with Dolby Atmos/Dolby Vision judging by the old specs published

Nah man it's got a 7-day EPG! And language options even.
 
Who in their right mind would buy something which ties you to a company for ever versus a proper Android/Apple device and even a Roku, which allows you to load multiple services not catered for by this thing?

This thing, and I am talking about the add-on services like Netflix/Amazon/Disney+, will probably only work whilst you are a DSTV subscriber.

I don't know what the current state of their explora decoders are, but years ago, when I was still stupid enough to use them, the things were slow and buggy as hell, and very limited in capabilities. Their track record in bringing out patches and new features were dismal. So how do they intent to compete against well established streamers.
I predict a massive failure on this thing. There is nothing this thing can offer me which I can't already get - if I chose to - via my current Android based box. Just need to install the APP and sign up for a service and voila.
