Municipality literacy shock

But lets not wait and keep the educated whites in positions, and slowly change this as black people are educated. No, lets rather force people who cant read and write into senior positions - and scratch our heads as to why the country is going down the tubes.

And that was probably the most concise summary of SA's future I have read.

I remember the time I was trying to call Home Affairs and the phone would just never stop ringing. I then had no choice but to visit them and upon doing so I notice that there are three people at the counter and all of them don't even seem to care about my concerns about them answering the phone (they said it should be working, but made ZERO effort to even check).

I then illustrate in front of them using my cellphone and bam! it goes through. She then said "See? It's working now... We would have answered it.".

I think to myself as I leave that they are just using their time doing nothing, so I walk out of eyesight and dial again - this time I can even hear the phone ringing - did they eventually answer?

No.

i'm actually not surprised at this; working with public affairs in the past have seen allot if this illiteracy there - what even more scary is that some personnel couldn't even use a pc properly.

Wackhead must have pranked them a few times. :D

I wish it was only municipality employees that are illiterate but it's in all sectors. Just got off the phone with my bank and I had to spell my name about 6 times for the receptionist... I mean how difficult can it be to spell BJ...

Maybe you don't speak very clearly:D

...Please tell us how the knowledge of isiZulu would help you understand a budget?
Duh, it would help if the bugdet was written in isiZulu!

...Oh wait, is it because English is somewhat more commonly used in economics?
Whose fault is it that it is not written in isiZulu or any of the other 11 'official' languages?

Surely not, because then we would have to admit that knowledge of it would be a compelling requirement for municipal councillors, and your reactionary dribble would be exposed for what it is.
If avoiding the issue is the best you can do, you'd be better off replying in sign language. (No offense meant to users of sign language.)
Oh Well, I guess you can't read the smileys, or maybe you've ZERO % sense of humour. Why would you make such an issue of something that was said in jest. Get hold of yourself, man.

If you haven't learnt how to read and write after 14 yrs then you would not have done so in the 1st place.. regardless of Apartheid.

The real sad reality is that these people (In the main) are uneducatable no matter what they are exposed to, or for how long. Schooling cannot alter this to any significant degree.

Gee, I wonder why it isn't.

Yes, of course, I'm sure all those international textbook publishers will jump to attention and salute.

Oh please. Just because you decorate something with smileys, doesn't mean the words don't count. Try again.

Ha.Ha. My turn: Ek wil net se dat die binnelanse sake hier in PE nie te sleg is nie, toe ek aansoek doen vir my ID was enige foute op die boek, daardie wat ek self gemaak het! :D Wich are my F`s and V`s LOL! Anyway I got a SMS from them with a reference number before I even left their building. Sure it is untidy and old and deurmekaar, but everyone there. The darkies and the whities were waiting in the same cue talking **k equally impatient. ;) When I went for my ID looooong time ago in Bellville`s Binnelandse Sake it was a white ruled building of silence and fear, with a unfriendly tannie sitting behind the glass hating her work and doing just that. LOL! You started at counter 1 just like today! And then the next.. etc. Ok maybe the photo`s were not swapped to much and names buggered up to badly, but the face behind the glass could not give a stuff about what or who is on the other side. They also just wanted the day / month / year to go away. :D So in essence nothing has changed, the face just got a tan now! :)
