'Perceptions are based on fact' - Seriously now, that's your argument? & if a large number of people have the same perception, this is referred to as 'Groupthink', & has no bearing on the facts. While I'd like to know the reliability of the survey, given the false stats published in the past, if it is true, that's great!

No one is saying crime is not a problem. I'm sure we all agree that even if murder rates were to drop by 50%, murder would still be a massive problem. We'd probably need to have murder rates 5% of what they are now before we are inline with developed countries.

It seems the only way you consider murder to be a problem is if it is actually getting worse ever year. Murder rates can be the same year to year, or even improving a bit for it still to be a major problem.

We can accept that murder rates are improving, but not fast enough for it to be considered acceptable. This is not denial.

Who came out with this crappy article? the murder rate at 1994 was less than 5000 for our country in 1994. It was recently stated in several news papers like the beeld, sunday times and rapport...

Those were quoted by the saps of the old regime that could count to high numbers over 10!!!

LOL you believe the stats released during apartheid? The very same regime who thrived off censorship? Do those numbers take demographics and suburbs into account? Or did they simply ignore all non-white areas?

The papers have published the numbers and stated that it was published by the previous SAPS. What you make of that is up to you.

And I highly doubt that they could count to 5, let alone 10. There are no words for people like you. Go ahead and long for the good old days, but it's not coming back.

Maybe so, but do we have a reason to suspect this report was doctored to make SA look good? I think not, the fact it appears at SA Goodnews don't mean nothing. The report itself from morning radio reports (no SA Good news) was compiled by SAIRR.

You can surely not dispute the fact that they say we had 24K+ murders around '94 & about 18K+ today? Now what we don't get in the media is how circumstances then compare to today. There could have been still a lot of political violence (left over from the 90's) and at the time taxi violence was more intense. And the police force of then was in tatters.

They can say what they like, but people were definitely safer in 1994 than they are in 2009.

I don't for one believe these stats are true, I don't for one believe that the current police are competent enough to formulate the stats and work as effective as they had in pre1994.

what I find even more amusing is that there are people who living in ignorance, if you 'believe' we live in a safer environment then in the past then please don't try and indoctrinate others to do the same.
 
Most people complain about crime increasing, not murders increasing. Duh! We all know that certain categories of crime are still on the increase. 18 000 murders a year - this place is a war zone and we are hosting a world cup within 200 days!

Firstly I believe that a lot of Murders have been massaged down to "lesser" charges (which would explain why they're all up).

Secondly '94 is hardly a benign base year, the number of politically motivated killings soared prior to the elections.

There you go just making up numbers again. Forumites, just a warning (for those few who haven't realised it yet), Therooster (our resident forum clown) consistently and frequently completely makes up entirely fake statistics, pulled 100% from his a-s (and which of course he can't back up) to pursue his anti-white agenda. Actual statistics show that whites are not only targeted disproportionately higher, but also often targeted (at least 30% of cases) because of anti-white hatred. Think about it logically; if whites were really targeted much less than blacks, the government wouldn't hide this information, and yet they do hide this information. Therooster also creates websites where he promotes killing all whites (and hides this hate speech behind a false claim that his sites are 'obviously parody, gee' ... cue that lame defence yet again in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... or no wait, are you going to use your favorite word "FAIL" instead to describe my post? Who knows, the suspense is killing me, not)
