Muslim students, including trainee doctors on one of Britain's leading medical courses, are walking out of lectures on evolution claiming it conflicts with creationist ideas established in the Koran.

Professors at University College London have expressed concern over the increasing number of biology students boycotting lectures on Darwinist theory, which form an important part of the syllabus, citing their religion.

Similar to the beliefs expressed by fundamentalist Christians, Muslim opponents to Darwinism maintain that Allah created the world, mankind and all known species in a single act.

It's simple. No attendance, no pass the course.


... at least the Christians still go to the lectures even if they don't necessarily agree with them.
 
It's simple really, you boycot an important lecture because it goes against what your religion teaches, you can blame your god when you fail that section of the exam. No mess, no fuss.
 
From discussions on mybb with moslems, I was under the impression that most moslems accepted evolution as fact.

..or at least accept this as part of their learning. However, newspapers don't sell with headlines like "A few students doing some biology course (some of which are trainee doctors) boycott classes on Evolution"

I thought moslem and muslim both mean the same thing.

Edit: Just checked moslem is a variant spelling of muslim and still widely used.

The question recently came up as to whether the term "Moslem" (as opposed to "Muslim") is considered insulting or somehow anti-Moslem*. More specifically, I made the claim (though I did not put it this way exactly at the time) that "Moslem" was a dogwhistle signifying teabagging anti-Obama racist scumpuppies.

Hmm, I thought Islam has no real issue with evolution, or the big bang for that matter?
I see they're fundamentalist, though, so like their Christian brethren, they have no problem with gleefully embracing ignorance.
Mainstream Islam has probably accepted the science.

I'm sure wayfarer or Mineer should be able to clear this up for us?
 
I'm sure that there are alot of other moslems/muslims that continue to attend these lectures.

That would be insensitive and politically incorrect. How would they insure diversity and representation in medicine?
