Is my speedtest results which would mean I can only upload at around 256k

However my line syncs at:

DownStream Connection Speed 1024 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 512 kbps

According to their website this is however correct.

My question is why?

Here is same test using Afrihost and it is not limited to 256k upstream:

I know for a fact now that my line is capable of faster upload speeds, why is M-Web not the same as the other isp in this regard?

You are lucky to even get half your line download speed on M-Web. Be grateful for at least that...

Last Result:
Download Speed: 813 kbps (101.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 250 kbps (31.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: -1 ms

Download Speed: 805 kbps (100.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 239 kbps (29.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: -1 ms

Point is still that M-Web accounts seemed to be capped to 256k upload speed. Other ISP's don't seem to do this. Back to my original post Afrihost surely does not. I know also that most people will now say but why the concern with upload speed. Mail will send quicker, Uploading webpages to web server are quicker and in the example above using Afrihost this will be half time compared to M-Web. Not everyone is a download freak. :)

Telkom
Your current bandwidth reading is:
864.60kbps
which means you can download at 108.08 KB/sec. from our servers.

M-Web
Your current bandwidth reading is:
255.40kbps
which means you can download at 31.93 KB/sec. from our servers.

Wow another genius who doesn't know mweb doesn't peer with saix.

Eating gingerbread off my Galaxy S, baked by Darky.

Wow another person making an ass of u and me. Assumptions. I game online and I am well aware it is impossible to play BC2 on Saix Servers as M-Web client because the trraffic is routed internationally as telkom and mweb cannot agree on free peering.

Shayd I see you are only a member on here for 2 years dont go around labelling people.

Surely even if Mweb doesn't peer with saix it should only negatively affect latency and not download/upload speed which is the question at hand?

If you are routing CPT-LON-CPT then the likelihood of there being a bottle neck or slowdown to an ISP as small(internationally speaking) as Telkom is significantly higher. This long round about route to SAIX is likely to be sub optimal in terms of routing and therefore less likely to deliver acceptable performance.

(Tinfoil hat on)We also cannot ignore that SAIX may very well have done this on purpose in retaliation to the aggressive stance MWEB has taken against paid peering.

Sorry Monster didn't mean to come off as an azz earlier, sometimes these forums make me nasty.

Hi Smurf - I'm looking into this now, apologies for the slow response.

Wait.....

From http://www.mweb.co.za/productspricing/Portals/19/Pdf/MWEB_Uncapped_ADSL-25May2011.pdf

1024 kbps
Slightly faster option, suitable for a family or small
office looking for more speed.
Download: 1024 kbps. Upload: 256 kbps

Were they supposed to change the upload speed or am I missing something? The account seems to be performing exactly as it should

My Line syncs at 9800Kbps and 800Kbps,I however only have a 4mbps uncapped account,so my down and uplink are 4096Kbps and 512Kbps. Working as intended

It is performing as advertised, but the fact is the Telkom line speed is 1024/512 and other ISPs provide it as that. MWeb for some reason is 1024/256

Yes, can Mweb please confirm why the upload is limited?

I know of a couple of people that are with other isp's and are getting full 512k upload speed on their 1mb uncapped accounts.

woops

Last Result:Download Speed: 265 kbps (33.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 118 kbps (14.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: -1 ms

sorry for the hijack guys. with mwebguy following this he can helps a brudda out.
