MWEB 20Mbps, 40Mbps uncapped VDSL prices announced

In all honesty you might say I am crazy but, those prices are acceptable given Mweb's network.
If the MWEB Business Uncapped VDSL 40Mbps - R10,699 p/m (VDSL router included). option was available to me now I would take now.....

Mweb's network is almost 100% better than TelkomSA & Afrihost.......
 
So early adopters are set to get burnt again... even the "consumer" grade offering price is crazy... R2,299

Telkom Business Uncapped:

MWEB Business Uncapped:

Hmmmm... clearly MWEB hasn't seen Telkom's pricing... so sorry MWEB... major fail!

These prices are actually not bad provided you get proper business contention and support - specifically not the current ADSL run-around where there is no SLA from Telkom for the lines. I would only be unhappy if I were down for a few days AND had to pay for said days on top of this.

Can all of you please wake up to the BUSINESS component here. The residential option for just over R3 999 for 40Mbps doesn't sound too bad as you know the ISPs are still stuck with the IPC story and the people that get this are intending to use MASSIVE bandwidth. Those that just want the speed will get the capped accounts (ala VOX). Telkom pricing doesn't really look much better, plus I am always wary of their packages.

Don't get me wrong, I wish uncapped could be cheaper, but I am realistic in terms of the structure of the market (i.e. Telkom local charges for line and IPC) vs the parts the ISPs can control (international transit). It would be great if we could get the breakdown for this to compare it to the ASDL cost structure or a note if there is any major difference in the pricing models.

Bern, you seriously wrong... look above... I compared MWEB Business with Telkom Business:

Telkom TBiz Elite Uncapped Business 40960 Sophisticated Web-Hosting R 5095

MWEB Business Uncapped 40mbps R10,699 p/m (VDSL router included)

MWEB is double the price... sorry, but MWEB still relies on Telkom for the last mile & from MSAN to their network interlink, so why on earth would pay double the price for 40mbps business ADSL?

I know various companies who will follow this route since they pay that only for bandwidth via wireless and not even with cap included. All about how stable this service is and which fall back route they will use when the service is unstable or unavailable…

R2300 p/m for uncapped internet faster than 4mbps ? doesn't sound too bad ?

GTFO, those prices are completely criminal. Mweb and Telkom seriously want to rewind to 7-8 years ago, **** them all.
 
Problem with Telkom Biz solutions is that they don't appear to have static IPs. Not worth 5K, but still :D

The reality is that bandwidth is not cheap, the difference in price is most likely due to higher contention ratios and stricter shaping on the Telkom product. Because it says 40mbps means nothing, the devil is in the detail. In my opinion the pricing is really not that bad.

40mbps 1:1 fiber is going to set u back R80k per month, and that's one of the cheaper providers!

Which has 40mbps upload as well,

Which probably has an SLA as well,

and as you said has a 1:1 contention ratio.



The VDSL lines have 2-3mbps upload,

a shoddy SLA,

and an undisclosed contention ratio.

There must be a reason they don't do this, surely the option of softcapping at 200GB+ must have occurred to them ?

Whatever the reason may be, I don't think we would like it.
 
Maar,let me get this straight..

R 148.37 (Mandatory Telkom tax)
R 540.00 (VDSL Line speed 20Mbps)
R2 299.00 (DATA?!?!?)

= R 2 987.37

I can live with the first 2 as a consequence of the abnormality of providing DSL connectivity in S.A.(no need to debate it here),but surely the R2K from Mweb is data and here I thought the slew of undersea cables were going to save our a$$es and bring on "Data Nirvana" for the masses, but it seems I was wrong...:confused:

Any chance myBB can look into what the local vs international costs are for data on VDSL? I would hazard a guess the IPC portion is through the roof if previous articles are anything to go by (Telkom IPC cost is 65% of the total cost of the data portion)... But lets all blame Mweb without knowing the breakdown of the costs, its far more fun!

Looks like all the undersea cables are doing exactly what they are meant to, but local costs are whats stopping us (on ADSL anyway, but VDSL is sure to be similar)
