Mweb Abuse Notification

Just another 2 cents...

I don't agreed with the abuse thing....

Most of you that are complaining might as well jump ship... :)
There is so much competition out there and better then MWEB.

Moral of the story is when you pay for a service you expect the service.
 
So i just moved houses and was planning to get mweb for an isp , but now im rethinking it . Im quite a heavy user , not only downloads wise but for gaming (I download most of my games via steam , origin or just general digital downloads)

Im pretty sure i wont be joining MWEB after hearing all this

What gets to me the most is "MWEB GUY" was quick to pipe up with terms of use but now where is he ? not one word , not one explanation ,Pretty pathetic tbh.
Shows you how little they actually care for their customers :/

I don't see the point in hoarding excess of anything though, but that's probably because I saw how my Dad and Gran clung onto tons of useless junk because they were poor growing up! We had boxes and boxes of old newspapers that did nothing but clutter up the house! Digital hoarders probably have HDs filled with random stuff they will never use! At the end of the day, why pack rat all that stuff away if you're not going to use it? Spend less on hard drives/internet and donate that money to charity or something.

I never disagreed with any one :)

As for hoarding, I hoard a bit, mostly just media, and most of it I do get to watch, and if not, I always have a friend in need and usually the answer is, I have it, swing by and grab some media, then we hang out with a beer and what not while the media copies.

Don't get me wrong, I am not justifying downloading the internet, and I have no problem with the ISPs having a problem with big downloaders. Just thought I should stand up for digital hoarders :)

ps. I bet my house is cleaner than most regular hoarders. I don't like too much stuff standing around.

Do you HONESTLY think that kicking users off the service will 'free' up bandwidth for the rest?
Kicking heavy download users off the system only gaurantees the rest further mediocre service which is exactly what MWEB offers in comparison to its competitors.

MWEB has been and will always be a mediocre service provider. Remember - its all about the numbers for them - the more users they can cram on to their mediocre service offering the better for them. Overcharging for sub-par service is just part of their hidden agenda. Notwithstanding the fact that they charge people they kick off their system anyway.

If people don't voice their concerns over mediocrity then everyone will just trundle along accepting it.

What baffles the living daylights out of me is - this is the general attitude of the people in our country.
Yes - some things we have no control over - the EKSOMS and the TELKOMS of this country and other service monopolies do indeed have us by the proverbial short and curly's - but in other matters like walking away from a mediocre service provider like MWEB is indeed something we can control.

THERE ARE OPTIONS!

And better options at that.

And thats as simple as it gets.

You guys act like that fat guy at Wimpy that freaked out after he was told he couldn't have any more "bottomless" Cream Soda after his seventh glass.

The whole business model rests on how normal people would use the service and that normal people have limits.
If everyone used their lines like some of the posters on here uncapped wouldn't exist, except at crazy prices.

Have never had issues with Line Abuse and i Download what i need, sometimes doing 90 GB in a month or 10 GB a month.
Even now I sometimes ask myself what do i want to download next as i'm running out of ideas or storage lol

Here's an interesting concept for you.

If it weren't for big downloaders like us, ISPs will probably still be peddling 2GB Caps for high prices today.
We might not even have had uncapped, because there was "no market" for it.

Big Downloaders like us PUSH the internet speeds and capacity forward. we drive the market.

That is total bullsh*t. Almost all my friends are on uncapped ADSL, all of us download quite a lot and at the very most we'll manage just over 500GB in a month. Average use is between 250GB and 450GB. A poll on another SA forum indicated that the average data consumption of SA internet users is much higher than we might suspect (the 50GB and 'over 100GB' options were the two most popular). To download 700+GB on a 4Mbps connection in a month means that you are abusing the network.

I'm really hoping this strategy of Mweb's works great and all the data hogs move elsewhere. The network can only be better off without them.

You download half a terabyte a month, and then complain about people who download 700GB?
You are pretty much a big downloader too... sure, you might not be listed as an abuse user as such, but you're pretty much doing the same thing...

If the guys who downloaded 700GB went down to 400GB, YOU would be the guy downloading too much, and MWeb would be on your ass.

Just because you "only" download half a terabyte each month doesn't make you better than everyone else, "just over 500GB" is quite a lot.
 
I got an abuse email when I was at 90% completion on a 170GB torrent. I was getting amazing speeds on the torrent (full speed 4mb) but daily usage was still below 30GB, highest was 27. Wasn't using SSL or anything so what I don't get is why they didn't shape the torrent, they say torrents are fine because they shape them, this one was full speed all day, but how is it my fault when their shaping methods fail?
 
Exactly - if they have a problem with a person downloading too much or too fast, then limit it!
Don't advertise as "Uncapped", and when someone uses it as uncapped, they get abuse letters or get banned.

You can't have it both ways MWeb :erm:


I seriously don't understand how one can download too much on an Unlimited Service - it just doesn't make any sense..

After a less than satisfactory trip to restaurant chain Wimpy last year, Hennie Wolmarans returned this week to get his monies worth.

In December, Wolmarans was told that Wimpy's bottomless cold-drink offer did not apply to him as he had drank far too many - seven glasses in total.

January has started on a slightly better note for the soft drink enthusiast, however, as a trip to a Wimpy in Johannesburg on Tuesday resulted in a two-hour cooldrink binge to really make the most of the offer.

Wolmarans drank 26 glasses of cream soda during the 120 minute period and clearly was left a happy man as he finally got the deal he felt he so richly deserved from Wimpy.

Well done, Hennie, for getting back at the man, we are just not so sure your stomach was best pleased in the end?

They are deceptively advertising product as 'uncapped'. Everyone knows that the product is capped. It doesn't matter if it's a hourly/daily/weekly/arbitrary period cap; it's still a cap. It doesn't matter if they only apply it selectively; it's still a cap. It doesn't matter if the won't explain what the mean by "prolonged" or "excessive" etc. -it's still a cap.

AIC=Aerial Intercontinental Co-Delivery -is s type of data delivery that uses airborne means (such as pigeons, microlights etc.) to transport physical data in the form of flash drives between ISP clients & customers on different continents. It costs a bit more on top of an ADSL line, but it is often quicker & more reliable. MWEB is currently the only ISP is ZA to offer such a service.

I don't download half a terabyte, I said that's the most I've ever done. My household usage is usually 250-350GB a month, with 450GB now and again.
 
The real funny here is that if Mweb service was really crap and these 'abusers' were not concerned about being told to take a hike to the other side, then threads like this wouldn't exist. So comments like 'there are so many better isps and Mweb service sucks' really are lame.
