MWEB ADSL pricing comparison

Your wish is granted

I want to have the option of switching between SAIX and Verison and IS.
I want the best latency possible dammit!

Get a decent CISCO

Set it up properly and let IT do all the work for you "automagically"

I am pretty sure that with the right routing protocols running you can route based on latency -- in real time

You WILL need multiple accounts though ( and for best results multiple physical ADSL lines )

What? MW, if I had the money to throw at that solution, then why on earth would I be sweating the meagre R125 that WebAfrica is asking? Numbnuts!

@Moggie - Telkom's 3GB for R149 is now the cheapest non-group-incentive ADSL bandwidth in the country. It's no longer Nanado's.

It's easy to say they compete well with the others, BUT why isn't Cybersmart in there? Cybersmart 3Gb @ R125 for 384Kbps. I don't work for them, I just use their service, which is very good BTW.

@ Cybersmart, please can I have some free bandwidth for some good advertising? Pretty please :D

Some of Cybersmart's T&C's ain't that cool.

telkom still kicks **s with the 5gig + 30gig local @ R239.

If only they would drop their prices for the line double billing.

I just recently switched my 4Gb line to a do level 3 which includes 5Gb and this is how it stacks up:
R413 line rental
R239 5Gb
R652 total

Do level 3:
R557 - includes line rental. If you take Line rental as above then I'm paying:

R413 line rental
R144 for 5Gb - that's R28.80 per gig!

Talk about anti-competitive behaviour.

THIS TABLE SUCKS...

If you compare mwebs prices (with a 512 or 4meg line) it is CHEAPER than WebAfrica...

BUT they haven't increased at all. Still only 1GB. Did they say End of September. The email say September but no date. Here is a screen shot to prove.

I have the 1gb data account only for R145

Hi cavedog,

I have escalated the matter. Just to confirm your 1GB package in NOT an All-Inclusive (ADSL line rental bundled) which didnt change?

EDIT: Update

OK, the process to upgrade all account caps is in progress. This could only start at 0h00 this morning and is being done in batches as there is multiple systems to update and much cross reference checking to do. It is estimated the process will be complete by weeks end.

oh my MWEB people are not the up to date people in the world, I phone to ask about the new prices, etc.

First I had to explain to the sale person that there are new prices and I had to guide him to the page on their website, in which he replied 'oh'. And the application form online has still got the old prices.

Hi benitok,

Apologies, has been escalated to the appropriate manager.

Huh - is the bundle size not increased for all-inclusive package customers???

Not a problem, I'm just a bit put off now. I wanted to change over, but I will wait a while and see if other service providers change their offerings as well.

Paying R557 for 5GB is not worth it for me. R413 line rental is for what? Surely it costs the same to lay 384Kb lines and 4Mb lines?

I sent my cancellation fax of to cybersmart 5mins ago. Hope they get it this time. Time to start looking fo a new isp...

+1 :)

Yup, Telkom's 3GB deal is smacking them in the nuts.

I'm :
- getting Telkom's 3GB deal = R149 (call 10215)
- throwing in a 1GB WebAfrica (0861 555 222) unshaped for playing WoW = R125 (OUCH! This had better be worth it!)
- have a 10GB local-only from Axxess (0861 300 900) that I am still slowly using up = R120.

It's such a pity that Telkom don't give you a way to directly access your local-only part of the package. (e.g. With another login) That would make them the best ever.

+1 ... it would be great if local data were depleted when accessing local

I'll never get to use local only because I am always managing my 3Gb package to last the whole month. I have yet to blow it. Came close in July but managed to get through last week on 250Mb.

But here's the question: Why has MWEB not increased their local data? Surely this puts them out of line with Telkom?

No, it does not. Increasing the subscriber line speed means you have to increase the backhaul bandwidth. This has a knockon effect throughout the entire network from ATM to SDH to Routers, besides increasing the backhaul bandwidth you would most likely at some point also start using more physical equipment ports. All these things cost money.

Cheapskate

WELLllllll IF you were looking in the RIGHT places you would discover that a CISCO solution would not be much more than a few of these paste and glue routers.
BUT you are obviously looking in the wrong place --
