Mweb customer - switch to Afrihost?

Glad you're interested in the Afrihost uncapped. Unfortunately we don't have trail accounts, but if you sign up from the link I've posted in previous threads, you'll get 50% of your first month (backed up by our double your money back guarantee). Think that's worth a try whichever you look at it. ;)

You can also check this thread for some feedback on our 4Mbps Uncapped.

I'm dead keen to switch now...
How does average 2.4Tb over 12 months sound (200Gb per month average)?

A few people are worried about signing up pending the announcement - don't panic, signing up now will not prevent you from taking advantage of the awesomeness we're about to unleash. Like the R29 a gig, and 10Mbps under R1,000, we're about to shake up the industry ... and hopefully bring broadband accessibility a little closer to everyone :)

I hope IS hasnt jumped the gun on you guys and their announcement (http://mybroadband.co.za/news/wireless/51825-20mbps-wi-band-service-from-is.html)

I hope yours is even better, like you are going on your own and will be provisioning your own bandwidth from July or something like that....

Ok, Mweb cancelled... I had to give 1 CALENDAR MONTH'S NOTICE so it comes into effect properly at the end of July :(

After than I'm going to go for Afrihost's *********blahblahblahblah************
*edited so as not to steal Afrihost's thunder tomorrow* :D:D

The Mweb lady gave me a schpiel about 'so you're going with a cheaper option?... I must warn you that Afrihost have an AUP...' (I thought Mweb did too). I replied 'Yes, but i've confirmed that 200-300Gb per month is fine on their network'... to which she responded 'I have a slower line and do that much without trying'...

Pity I didn't think of it at the time but I wanted to ask how she gets that right 'easily' on a 1Mbps or slower line. That's alot of linux distros to download :D

Just take the 4MB account then you have no worries.

Nope, 1mbps is the most this line will accommodate -worst attenuation in the WORLD. So only 1mbps is relevant to me. I know what I can do with my current ISP. I'm curious to know what AfriMan has to say. ;)

EDIT: Ok, thanks AfriMan. I know who I'll be sticking with then. Keep it up though, as I mentioned before...competition is ALWAYS good. (OW has no issues with me downloading 200GB+ p/m on a 1mbps line -and they won't throttle me either -JUST saying :p )

My point was to take a 4MB account on a 1MB line and then you don't have to worry about running into the shaping/AUP limits. Of course it costs more, but you get what you pay for, as they say.

Ok, I get it. But yeah, as you've pointed out: Cost. I can still do as much as I can with my current ISP -without worrying about being throttled...which is what AfriMan has confirmed will happen to me if I were with them.

Yes, that would definitely work. You could easily move 200Gb if you're using a 4Mbps data account.

Will you link the announcement here when it's made... so those that are subscribed to this thread will know about it without having to hunt the announcement down...

And even if you hit the first "level" of "management" you'll be restricted to more than double what your line could handle anyway :D

I'll probably create a new thread (or MyBB will do so from the press release) but I'll also post links in threads where we're talking about things Afrihost.

Well I'm excited to have my 1 month notice period with Mweb in swing, even if it's 1 calendar month and I can only exit end July. I hate having that noose around my neck!

That's ridiculous.

I cancelled my webafrica account with immediate effect in the middle of last month. Yes, I'd paid for the month, but I certainly didn't have to pay for this month too.
