Mweb customer - switch to Afrihost?

So Afrihost have caught my attention with their all in 1 deal - uncapped + adsl rental. I'm currently on Mweb uncapped and Telkom 4Mbps. I'm generally happy and this is the longest i've been with an ISP in ages.

My question is... is it worth switching for R100+ a month less... and how is Afrihost these days?
Does anyone have an Afrihost uncapped account on 4Mbps? Could you do a speedtest.net for me?
I just don't want to go through the headache only to find i'm not happy with the speed.

Does anyone know what upstream Afrihost uses vs Mweb? I wonder if they'd let me test it for a few hours...

Any help appreciated!

I am very happy with Afrihost.
I havent had any issues with speeds, and having Afriman on the Forum gives an added benefit. I am quite the ISP hopper, and i think i might well have made my last hop for quite some time! I just hope that Afrihost will try to beat the other ISP's when they bring their prices in line...

Last month from the 15th to the end of the month, I did 170+-gb, and not once was there a slow down. My line syncs at 7500kbps, so i get speed tests in the region of 4-5mbps download and 0.70 odd up.

Speaking of Uncapped Prices - We have a HUGE announcement coming out VERY, VERY soon ... you heard it here ... ;)
 
After the their deciet in the past I doubt I will use them ever again, I would recomend MWEB.

How much is the FUP??? do you even know?

I will be the first to admit that Afrihosts first attempt at Uncapped was terrible... But before you bad mouth this account, give it a try. There is a 60 day money back guarentee too, so if you arent happy, just cancel.

Do you use newservers at all?If so do you get full line speed all the time?

I was with Afrihost so trust me I have been there. Once bitten twice shy.
Do you perhaps work for them?
I am now with Mweb - have used 400 gigs before and never once had any issue

Mmmmmm, always reluctant with comments like the above. You don't want to be creating unrealistic expectations and with statements like that you run the risk of doing just that... Having said that we eagerly await this HUGE announcement!!!! :p

Every time I have downloaded something from Astraweb, it has been above 400kB. I don't really download during the day though. right now I am getting 490kB on an NZB.

While i was replying to marine below, I left the download running, and it hasnt dropped below 460kB. If you like, I can send you some hourly reports on the usage etc?

No marine, I dont work for them... I dont feel the need to download 400gb any more. So I now game, stream, browse and download when there is something I need or want. Last month, for 15 days I managed 170 odd GB. That was in the interest of testing the account however... so I will probably end up doing that in a month moving forward.

To each, his own, but I would say based on my Experience so far, that this is definitely one of the best accounts available at this point in time at the price point for someone wanting to do 200-300gb... I have had Openweb Gold, Mweb uncapped 4mbps and 1mbps, WebAfrica 4mbps uncapped, and a wireless provider called Kawuleza on uncapped 4mbps up and down, so, believe me when I say what I say.

That being said, Mweb definitely didnt ever bother me with abuse mails like WA did. So for someone doing over 300gb, Mweb may still be the better option.

Not necessary but thanks anyway.This Afrihost offering looks really good for my needs and I see in this thread there is another pending announcement from them about price cuts!!!
 
I'm eagerly waiting for the annoucement perhaps give us an idea as to mid month or next month?

I am not sure which deceit you are referring to, but let's leave the past in the past ... if you're willing to give our products a try, we stand by our double your money back guarantee.
 
I used to be with Afri before Mweb. If you do not mind being throttled after 20 gig on your uncapped account, go for it. Also the FUP got changed 3 times while I was with them, each time for the worse. But to be fair it was when uncapped first started. I have been doing 200+ gig on Mweb every month since though.

I have done over 230GB in the last 20 days. I am right now downloading at 430 KB/sec from astraweb. (I throttle sabnzbd to that).

Afrihost ftw.

Go with who makes you happy. I prefer Afrihost. I refuse to support any Naspers business so Mweb won't see me soon.
