Okay, so it's Tuesday, it's 7:34am and I'm trying to watch a YouTube video.

This thing is horrible, it's really bad, I've tried multiple clips, I can't view them at all!
I've stopped it, tried to download from the Giganews news servers... I'm getting a 30KB/s!
I've tried to download from games.saix.net (ftp) and I got 50KB/s
I tried to play a quick game online (call of duty: MW2) and I was booted from a SA server and believe me, that's a first for me on ADSL!

So... as I understand it, I expected some sort of 'shaping' but dear god man... during office hours I can't do f'all with this 4mb uncapped account!!!!!!!!

Is this how it is meant to be?

Ya, not getting the greatest of speeds on NS now, but youtube is 100% fine...

Yes youtube is not usable during peak time. 7am everything goes down and only browsing stays fast.

NS is slow here, youtube runs normally, wow runs the same as always, good.
384k line. 30KB us my max!

I guess on a 384 line, 30KB means nothing to MWEB.

Even though is so badly shaped during peak time. I still feel its a good deal. The IS account is limited to 128k. Here you are shaped to about 30-80kbs. Much better. But the shaping does bug a little though.

I don't think you will be able to play games during the day. I figured it will be like this, but I still think it is a good deal.

I do not foresee me keeping this account going either - 5KB on Mweb from news.mweb and 38KB from Telkom - the irony... this was until 8am, but after that when telkom switches on shaping then at least you can get about 10KB or sometime even 38KB! 384 Line if that is not obvious :)

You clearly didnt read the terms :) oh noes i cant abuse the ***** out of the account, low as me.

I am very happy with the account.

I am using giganews and is currently downloading @ 125KB/s

So shaping is not that bad

Not that bad compared to the other options available now. So yes. I agree. Its still a decent offer.

My intentions is not to abuse the hell outta the account.
My intentions is to do my normal downloads and when I want, do my normal browsing.
I'm very happy with the package, but I'm concerned that if I can't even watch a YouTube clip on a 4MB line on this package, then what is the point?
Browsing is ok, but I did find that when I opened multiple threads (from MyBB) on tabs in IE, they loaded very slowly (I opened bout 6)
The 'shaping' is a issue currently for me.

I'm finding browsing nothing short of blitz, youtube included. In fact it feels faster than I get with either Cybersmart or Afrihost... TBH with all the new subscribers coming on board over the next couple of weeks/months if the service doesn't degrade I will be as happy as a crack and methane addict on a coca farm in the middle of Colombia..

hmm, not sure how well that will work for me. I do play games form time to time in the day when my time allows me to. I dont see why not :p I am my own boss, so who's rules will i break & who pays for the net?

@sandmanm34, something that waroop said, MWEB have to prove to the market that once their system is loaded with users USING the product, then we'll see.

I had issues, I'm sure more people will... just have to see what happens.

Your youtube and news problems probably arent so much the fault of shaping, as they are the fault of high-volume users. Perhaps your local dslam is also under heavy load?

Agreed, that will be the proverbial acid test....

I'm peeved because I haven't changed my package (4Mbps capped), yet yesterday (public holiday) and today I can't even do normal things at an acceptable speed, that used to work fine before this big rollout.

The MWeb representative said that shaping would only apply to 'downloads' during peak-times, yet I can't even load Jpeg and Gif images (300KB) at faster than 30KByte/sec on a 4MB line. Something very wrong...

Update: I ran the same tests at 23h59 last night, and had the same hassles. There is no way that is a peak-time!?
