MWEB explains their uncapped ADSL abuse policy

This however do not excuse their unlimited terms within their uncapped advertising, which is not even mentioned by Mweb in this article… Clever… The ASA should also answer on this...
 
I find the amount of MWEB publicity seeking in the last week or so rather amusing. Sounds a lot like the ANC on e-tolling ...

The only thing I can think of is that they got a legal opinion from counsel that makes them worry about the viability of their throttling decision

Mweb also said that there are two types of practices which ISP’s use to manage bandwidth: throttling and shaping.

Throttling is where the speed of the line limits users downloads, this is based on individual usage.
Shaping is where the ISP shapes the speeds of various internet protocols according to network utilisation to ensure fair use of the network and a great experience for all.

Is that how mweb described them? Because it seems shaping is a much better solution.
 
Although the ruling is debatable, the main problem is still these unknown usage caps which then implement shaping/throttling on your account. It's like driving a car without a fuel gauge..
 
Have not read the article to be honest as NOTHING Mweb says justifies what they did. Probably just lies and IMHO it's a cop-out as they just want to maximise profits while riding on the uninformed customers back. They would be to happy to retain the dial-up status quo at today's data prices.

Moving into a new place in a couple of weeks. While the lady of the house will be prettying up the place, I'll be attending to more important matters: getting an ADSL line.

At least I now know which ISP to NOT entertain joining. Thanks to all for the warnings! Was nearly caught in the trap as I was considering them earlier on when looking at the different options out there.
 
It's like saying people get arrested for breaking the speed limit on a stretch of road but the speed limit is not known you only find out after you are pulled over.. In addition different cars get different variable speed limits so if you friend gets pulled over you can't deduce what the speed limit is.
 
All MWEB is going to get is LOSING a customer!! I am suppose to have an uncapped subscription. What throttling?? I hav a 4MB line and get 80% of the time a speed of 232kb. I don't think that is uncapped,i think they are throttlinfg because they feel like it. Do they actually know what the problem is? Know they don't.

:mad:Ya please mozez don't go for them. take it from an exsiting customer. if your internet service gets to a nearly stand still ( I talking dail-up on ADSL) then you should get the picture. Rather find another choice. Take it from me, Their adverts is defiinitely misleading.:mad:
 
The neighbour got a warning because of his abusive behaviour when he reached 52gigs on a 4 mb Mweb line.
That means that I would be in trouble every month!
 
Just move to another ISP.... Stop giving Mweb publicity...

Mweb is getting back to it's roots.... Pre 2010 Mweb... No more free the web.....

Speak with your wallet and move over!

Per day per month? Please get more info details as we need to establish the reality of this situation. A pic of his 30 day use would be excellent!
 
Since it is a month to month contract, and one takes out a specific speed over a month I'd say mweb's advertising is misleading as they will throttle you for an entire month to a speed lower than perceived in the adverts

E.g 4mbps --> About 0.5 IIRC for a month, this is not stated in the advert so I'm sure a few people have fallen for this

and the worst part is users will be paying R899.99 for this rubbish speed

Mweb should lose their ISP license IMHO for what they're doing and the worst thing is I used to rage about them to friends and then they suddenly turn ****ty :mad:

And IIRC someone stated on these forums that they got confirmation from an mweb techie that there is a limit on each package, in which case like MTN did they should declare the limits where the speeds are throttled
