Mweb Fibre problem (Shaping??)

I wouldn't touch any company offering fiber through a contract or any type of contract for that matter. Its just not worth it.
Keep all this information and cancel the contract, if they want to charge you a fee then you take them to the Consumer commission with all the info you have. Just leave them already, save yourself the heartache...

And since you're not really showing signs of anger because of all this then why complain in the first place?

I am angry, I am however attempting to state just the facts. Also
I believe the techies think i'm a 'push over' because i'm female -.-

I posted here to get advice from other knowledgeable sources
to confirm that it is shaping - and what approach to take to
cancel / get out of the contract that my father signed into.

I am not complaining.

I was trying to get assistance from people as stated in the opening
line of the very first post - I wanted to confirm from those
who are familiar with these things so that I know that I have grounds
to stand on should I try and proceed with cancelling the contract without
paying the massive severance fee and to ask if anyone knew if this constitutes
a breach (Thanks for mentioning I should contact the consumer commission! :))
Aka - confirmation from opinions not just my own.

Thanks for the help.

Yes the line is with telkom, through mweb. Afrihost data works fine.

Telkom fibre runs through IPC, so you will have the exact same issues as you'd have with ADSL in terms of ISP throttling/shaping etc. You are contending with ADSL clients for expensive IPC

Dont think being a girl means anything to them. It is the general way MWEB operates. They have become so arrogant that they can't help solve basic problems from their side. They shaping and throttling has gotten so bad, that using their network has become almost impossible during peak times.

Best is, record your conversations where they admit it being their fault, then cancel your contract, as they are in breach.

2 months late. Are you allowing Toat to leave the contract?

I guess we not going with MWEB fibre after reading this thread. They haven't done anything to show this was rectified. So afrihost or cool ideas it is.

Btw just that people are aware of this.

It is now almost a year later. My fault is still at the same
level, any inquiry on it is met with ' we are escalating '.

Eventually some month ago I managed to get a hold of
a techie who told me there is nothing updated on my fault.
I have sent numerous traceroutes, ect, ect, even video
comparisons of how switching my ISP will show the connection
suddenly working and these emails had been responded to with
your fault has been updated. It hasn't. Its all gone.

This mantra is all that has greeted me in the past year.
"We are escalating."

All requests to please terminate my contact without penalty
have been ignored. Polite posts on their fb page have been
deleted.

Switching to Afrihost. Instant speed. Switching to webafrica
instant speed. Switching on a vpn, instant speed.

I was in the -very- embarrassing situation where I was holding
a LAN and we were sitting and waiting for 0:01 to start our
downloading on the night time data. At 0:03 the 'shaping'
kicked in and were unable to download anything or even play
CS:GO with a sudden ping of 300.

Switching ISP instantly resolved the issue.

Reporting this to mweb on Fb was met with "we are
escalating.".

Crushing defeat. I now have to wait for September
before I can get out of this when the contract finally
expires.

P.s

Mweb has told me numerous times on the phone the problem
is on their side. All polite requests to send me an email with the same
statement so that I have a text record of it have been ignored.

I hope someone somewhere will read this and be aware that there is
such an issue (at least with our connection) with mweb fibre and their
reluctance to assist, having drawn it out for almost a year - and still
going strong.

I was hoping someone might be able to assist me.

I have a 100mb Fibre line with Mweb on a 200GB
capped account.

I'm having a lot of difficulty where I am
persistently suffering from selective slow browsing
from around the middle of each month.

Normally it affects it from around 2pm to 1am,
but can be entire weekends.

This month, it was already in effect - each day,
from the morning until when I go to bed, from the
9th. I've only used 64gb of my 200gb by the 17th.

Connection
-----
Tested with 2 different modems.
Tested with 3 different computers,
2 with internal wi-fi, one tested with
sepate wi-fi receiver.
Tested with ethernet cable.

Speedtest tests fine.
Steam downloads full speed
Nvidia drivers download full speed
Any direct download downloads full speed
No packet loss on pings.

Certain websites work fine, such as
www.facebook.com
www.gamespot.com

news24.com struggles to open

Google mail very often gets stuck on 'loading'
and refuses to go in even when I set it to load
the basic version.

Google itself struggles to open - searches result,
quite often, in nothing happening.

Youtube doesn't load the video preview lists on
the homepage and doesn't load videos.

Animetv.top doesn't stream anything

My connection to my coding server where
I store my goodies, which I run through PUTTY
(ssh) doesn't hold longer than 30 seconds <--
apparently counts as an 'unattended download'
according to their techs which falls into
the realms of torrents (which also do not
work when this happens).

Trying to get into my eccommerce software
for my shop is quite often a nightmare.

When I run a VPN on any of the computers,
the problem vanishes -instantly-.

-Yesterday when I spoke to a tech, they said
everything looked absolutely fine, but it can
be the base cap of our account and he mentioned
that the 'technicians' will have to reset the
account... being unable to provide me with further
answers concerning the particulars of this account
reset. Frankly, i'm rather certain that he was just
making this up.:wtf:

He promised that the would call me
back in the morning, nothing. This is after waiting
over a week for a callback.

----------------------------------------
Does anyone have any idea if it could be anything
other than shaping?

Thank you for the assistance and I apologize for the
lengthy post. We have a two year contract, but I can't
continue on like this for two years

I'm having the exact same issues with mweb. I have a 4mb ADSL line with telkom and use mweb for data on a 200gb capped account. During peak hours their network is absolutely potato. Then I switch to my afrihost prepaid acc and all is fine. I also enquired about their fibre package and on a 10mbs fibre they give you a 1mbs upload. I literally lmao when I spoke to the sales consultant. No way I'm staying with mweb any further. Did these test straight after each other.
