MWEB Gaming Feedback

@ Will,

Have the day off and though I'd log onto BFBC2. At the moment I can login but can't browse the servers and if I go to favourites or history, I get a can't conenct to EA error.

4Mbps Shaped uncapped.

@Will - This should probably be on the PS3 thread, but over the last two nights I have not been able to login into PSN - are the ports that are used by the PS3 subject to same throttling as P2P or is also related to to the upgrades? [Pinelands Area]

A bit frustrating given that their are game updates that I need...

I have now gotten a unshaped 1 gig gaming account from axxess.

Will try mweb again for gaming , next week

I'm having a 300+ ping on local servers and a DL speed of 4kbps.the speedtest just gave me the same old results like 3mbps like it usually does but it tells me i have a 500 ping.so is my speed and my PING going to be shaped from now on?

Hi Gents (are there any ladies in this thread?)

Apologies for not responding to anyone yesterday, we were hard at work getting some performance tweaking on the Cape Town network in place and preparing for Sundays upgrades - how did everyone in Cape Town find their local gaming last night?

What about ppl that dont live in capetown with these problems? I live in PE (well close to PE) and my latency is horrible. Every night now it seems after 10ish my latency goes to 5k. Peak times it seems fine. Could you plz tell me if this upgrade will affect CT ppl only or will this affect everyone?

During the last few nights my latency have been Superb!! 30-70ms on local CoD4 servers. Even CoD MW2 online is running great for once.
Mweb 4096kbps Shaped.

Hi Sillicur

In terms of the segmentation you should be on the Cape Town link. Please could you show me some tracerts taken when you're experiencing the problem and we can try and get an understanding of what's causing it.

@Will, are there any problems you aware of in the southern suburbs? Latencies are again high on the 3rd hop

Trace complete.

This is while my ping in wow is 5000+ with horrid movement/skill use. This is in a area that isnt crowded at all. (silvermoon city)

As soon as i hopped onto a normal telkom 9gig of a friend right now, i had 270ms in game.

Honestly i have no clue if this tracert is good or bad, plz lemme know :)

Edit: Is the upgrade complete at my time of posting or should we only see a better ping tomorrow?

Hi sillicur

The trace looks decent enough, and certainly doesn't equate to a 5000+ in game ping.

Please PM me your MWEB details and I'll arrange for us to do some more troubleshooting on this.

Ok so i kinda got an update. Most of my guildies including myself use a tunneling service named "wtfast" which i always run (without wtfast, latency is 500-600ish) and with it its normally 250.

I ran it without wtfast right now and i got the normal 500-600 ms..... WTFast used to work 100% until a month ago, it still works 100% with telkom, it might have something to do between wtfast and mweb...Honestly i have no clue, but all i know is it used to work fine.

Ok that's useful info. I've responded to your PM, I sure we can take a look at that.

WoW tonight is unplayable, hopefully better tomorrow when the techs do a cleanup on the upgrade :P

Here is a tracert, I see quite a large jump on the 3rd hop which leads me to believe it is the upgrade done locally on CPT servers (I am in CPT).

The 3rd hop problem to 196-28-178-202.adsl.mweb.co.za is a widespread issue in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town, doesn't seem to be limited to MWeb, and is also discussed at length in this thread:

Decent enough, do you have selective reading or something? He has time outs and destination unreachable results. And hes sitting on 154MS local before he even breaks out into international waters.

At the moment the WTfast tunneling service works fine again with mweb. It normally works fine during this time of day thou, i will log in every few hours to see when it starts to happen. Generally when i log in after 7 it all goes to poopie. Will update tonight if it still happens.

If you are getting 150ms+ before you even get off the continent there is definitely something wrong. My ms is usually about 40 before it breaks out. The trace route you posted previously is NOT decent and is NOT normal, you have 48ms on the first hop. Are you on a wireless connection? If not it appears your copper could be damaged, or something is definitely weird with your exchange.

Hey, also been having similar problems for a few months, usually is perfect after business hours.
