MWEB Gaming Feedback

So Will left us last night with the response: We are testing something. I guess it must have been very technical to not need us. And to top it off, its 11am already, and no update. So I'm guessing they are still? testing. Or it was as fruitless as the last 2 months worth of testing?

Played using my MWEB account from 21:00 to 00:00 in Halion HM25 last night, just an update - it was fine for 95% of the raid. Pings bounced from 500ms (I KNOW!) to about 950ms and only had a disconnect or 2 near the end (which may have involved me looking at naughty pics).

The MTU settings for the most part seem to be working for me, but hopefully there are some other fixes at work here.

It seems to me, on 4mb uncapped, that dramatic shaping has taken place during the day with concern to gaming. Can not get an FPS to get a lower ping than 100, till later in the evening. This is a first for me and honestly quite unacceptable. I don't read too much on forums and such to do with ADSL as I've always been satisfied, but is there a reason for this?

We're essentially injecting user traffic into the network at various levels to try and narrow down where on the network the WoW traffic picks up issues.
This is going to take us a few days as we can only test in the evenings when the symptoms occur and there are physical logistics (cable patching and router configurations) involved in shifting the insertion point. I can't unfortunately involve any external users in this testing as we are working from within our network.
I can't share any findings from this testing until we've completed the work and the networks team have had the opportunity to carry out further analysis so please bear with me.

Once again, been playing WoW on my mweb account all day and getting around 600 ms. 6PM nears and I can see it slowly increasing until now when it has jumped to 8000ms. Time to switch to Afrihost for my night time gaming.

I will be very please once this issues is solved. Hope you guys find something, Will.

Yeah same issues here... Also p2p is worse than its ever been and YouTube get worse as we approach midnight. Most evenings at that time YT only buffers about half the vid then stalls and requires a refresh to get the rest... Dodgy! Tomorrow cata quake hits and my Afrihost acc is running out... Hope its fixed soon! >.<

MWEB seems a bit laggy tonight, don't have time to play around with it so off to Axxess for the night... Hopefully it is due to them working on the problem!

Hey Will,

Our clan is trying to play together but we're running into high ping issues between us. If I understand the whole peering , we should be good between us, IS and the one guy claims Vox whom peer at JINX and CINX. Are we peered with Vox? Pings between those players and us are at 500ms.

Sorry about the Delay Will
Im PM'n you my Gtalk so I can send you the Captures :)
and Mweb details and such :)
Thanks Mr Panda, you are a very interesting specimen indeed :D Please could you do two things for me:

Grab hold of an application called Wireshark (www.wireshark.org) and try and capture some traffic of your WoW play. Ideally you need to close down all other applications so that we get a clean grab and start the capture before you launch WoW. If possible could you create at least 2 - 3 captures each of around 5 minutes in length.

The second thing you can do for me is to send me a PM with your MWEB username and a means for me to contact you, either email, or telephonic. I need this firstly as we would also need to look at what's happening on the traffic manager and secondly as I will need to make contact with you to arrange getting the capture files from you.

If you're having trouble getting going with wireshark just send me the contact details and I'll walk you through it over the phone.

Thanks
Will

EDIT: I'm also interested to hear that you guys watched the Blizzcon stream on an MWEB line. What was the experience like?

Hi Will

Last night was better. Not great, but better. I could actually play without throwing my toys. Maybe not raid/pvp, but play at least.
Pings was about 500...spiking every now and then, but, like you said, you where actively making changes.
So, I guess that means you guys are making progress.

13 Days to Cataclysm....

A few spikes but nothing serious

I thought I'd just throw my hat into the ring, I always use lowerping when playing WoW. I haven't experienced many instabilities and can normally happily play at around 300, sometimes dipping to the high 200's ... I've got an Mweb 4mb uncapped shaped account.

Although without lowerping ( a week or so ago ) my pings were inline with the complaints on this forum. I'd definitely suggest having a look at lowerping if you don't already have it? Or if there's people WITH lowerping still experiencing these problems, I'll just count myself lucky.

about 2 weeks then this stuff needs to be sorted or Mweb will lose a lot of customers i think because of this.........

Mweb account is F^&*ed, getting constant DC's etc, 400+ ping(which would be fine if it did not spike the whole time).....switched to Axxess and its fine......

axxess account prepaid one - 250MS no issues........../sigh, hope mweb sorts this out fast

Actually it will be less IMO. They've got max 5 days before I close down my account. As you have to give a months notice. So end of Nov, will get my account stopped end Dec. I refuse to pay for 2 months for an account that doesn't work for my needs.

So everyone's internet is messed up because they are trying to fix the high WOW pings?

Bloodhound, other than the Friday night tests we did which delayed opening up of after hours P2P pools none of the testing we are doing is customer impacting.

If we do have to do any other testing which is customer impacting, we will announce it here.

Unfortunately. The only fix for the World of Warcraft issue is a Proxy Service. MWEB on its own is just unbearable.

erm no, proxy does not always help, played the other day with WTFast, Battleping and Lowerping and all the pings were kek, changed my Mweb account to an Axxess account and then it was fixed

as i stated, Mweb will be losing a lot of the gamer base community if this is not sorted out before end of this month
