Mweb Local Uncapped Trial

Telkom is not uncapped hence the 10 to 30gig's of local. I would call it more of a soft-cap as you can go over and people HAVE been charged

yeah basically you can download as much as you want - hence uncapped. they can then charge you for how much you go over your limit...

Uncapped entails being able to download what i want freely without the worry of being charged. I think the others will agree with me on this :P

MWEB ADSL subscribers will be glad to hear that there are no plans as yet to discontinue unlimited local traffic. MWEB customers will therefore still be able to access all local content despite the status of their overall cap. Thayer said that MWEB was still gathering data in regard to this offer and had no intention to put a stop to it in the near future.

Confirmed now! :D

Thank you to all those who cancelled, its because of your numbers Mweb got to their senses :p

I think this was an experiment in Mweb's part

It's just really sad that there is not consistency/transparency in their communication towards the end customer....999999 people (support/technical/sales) saying its stopping ....999999+1 people saying its not..... = Confused community

Deja Vu

Not that I am an MWEB subscriber. Their incompentent support staff and theft-like pricing was enough to send me to WA years ago.

BUT....

Is it just me, or is this what every single ISP provided to every single ADSL client for the first few YEARS when ADSL was commercially released in South Africa? Until Telkom changed their wholesale ADSL bandwidth pricing structure...

My my, how far we've come. We can now temporarily TRIAL a "service" that used to be the standard offering - only difference now is that I assume the ISPs bear the cost and not Telkom.

The confusion continues...

Just got this in my e-mail.

Dear MWEB Member

Since the 1st of February 2008, we’ve given all MWEB ADSL customers access to unlimited FREE Local-only ADSL data at no additional cost.

Local-only ADSL data allows you to enjoy continued access to locally-hosted websites and content in South Africa, after you have used up your monthly standard ADSL cap.

As from the 1st of May 2009, you will receive 10GB of FREE Local-only ADSL data per month. Any usage thereafter will be charged at 3c per megabyte. This is not a capped service and we will notify you once you’ve used your FREE allocation.

Should you have any further queries in this regard, please contact us.

Kind regards
MWEB Operations

So... three cents per megabyte... that's around R30.00 a Gigabyte.

I just received the same e-mail....

whilst they've said they'll continue the offering in some recent press statements, this clearly indicated they're gonna start charging now.

time to cancel :(

Ja, there are cheaper places to get local bandwidth.

Here is my cancellation reasons....

"REASON FOR SUSPENSION? - Mweb’s change in service, in terms of local bandwidth !!!!

ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION? - Notification of this change was sent out at 5:23pm on the 1/04/09 Despite prior press statements !!!!

well, technically their statement is correct. They are not stopping it... just pulling a Telkom by charging for it.

yep, they were quite careful in the wording of their statement in the article, http://mybroadband.co.za/news/Business/7465.html

they never imply that it will remain free, just uncapped :/

Well well - mweb pulled a telkom - who'd a thunk it. I'm kind of glad I gave them my notice last month.
