Mweb Local Uncapped Trial

Then perhaps they should inform their call centre agents, as I spoke to Gidaaya less than an hour ago and he said that there was no more free local. Once again, no confirmation of anything, lots of miscommunication, gotta love SA :)

Either way, I'm gonna try Mweb out, if it doesn't work, I'll just change ISPs.

no, no, no... if this thread has proved anything it is that their call center agents have been "instructed" to tell people that the trial is over and there is no more free local. But this is to discourage the use of the service. Don't rely on what their agents tell you on the phone... they are just toeing the party line. Trust me, they have not capped me yet this month and if they are planning on charging us for over-usage then they have yet to make those rates know to anybody.

Go back and read through this entire thread... the call center agents have been telling people that for months now... even when the trial was still running in the middle of last year.

So them telling everyone that the trial is over is your conclusive proof that it isnt?

Cool, thanks guys, my mind's made up, weird to think I'll be signing up for an Mweb account after last using them about 10 years ago for a 56k line :)

I think you have it right there Gary, makes perfect sense.

Bwana, go back to the beginning of this thread and start reading. Notice the first time somebody heard from a call center agent that there was no more free local...

they started saying this around July 2008... but I have been happily downloading every month since then.

This one was from september... http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=2037920&postcount=272

It's a case of 'what they do' and 'what they say' being two different things. Since I wont be signing any contracts, there's no harm in trying them out for a while. I've been going over my telkom cap for months and haven't been billed.

I've been going over my M-web cap for more than a year and have never been billed! :D

lol, specifics Gary, nobody's watching... I hope :P
I get about 20-30gb towards the end of the month off a 1gb account.

When I signed up 4 months ago the call centre person insisted there was no local usage on the account, even when I tried to correct them they again insisted this was not the case. So ya... seems not even MWEB employees have a clue about MWEB.

As of Saturday, the boneheads in their "sales dept" are still harping on about 10Gb local only. Got her to check with her supervisor, who confirmed this. I asked if there was anyone more senior than the supervisor, app. there was, and they too confirmed that the "Unlimted Trial" was over...

Am now confused, as I do not feel like putting in so much effort to take my business to them.

At the same time, one can understand that the type of customer that asks specifically about the unlimited local is the type that will abuse it:p

From all this, I reckon yes, the Unlimited is still available but they just don't want people like me to know about it:D

Now, to try it out!

Ja, and I remember them saying as well, when the trial started in the first e-mail, that they would notify us by e-mail if anything changed. So far there has been nothing by e-mail.

You know... I've only been downloading sporadically, seeing as the newsserver is screwed beyond repair. However, according to your downloading habits... I can see you getting the almighty smackdown put on you should they decide to go Telkom's route and offer "uncapped". :)

I know, it is a risk. But I am counting on them saying...

1) It is a trial
2) They would notify us by e-mail about any changes
3) They would post prices for "usage above the thresh hold"
4) ICASA's regulation that local is to remain "uncapped"

So, if they are going to turn around and claim a charge for "excessive usage" they will have a fight on their hands, since there was no prior agreement in place and their own documentation prevents such a move.

There is no option about that one. they HAVE to give uncapped local. just like telkom does...
