Mweb Local Uncapped Trial

i just phoned em (cause i'm very paranoid about extra charges). i spoke to a bloke called Thabulani(?) and he said no costs will be incurred for additional usage for april. the cost system will only come into effect from 1st May. hope they stick to that, i'm not keen on going to court with mweb...
 
iv heard that a few users have been "flagged" and getting calls from mweb suspending their accounts for the month

yeah they also said that there are no plans in the near future to cancel the uncapped local option........

but goodluck :D i guess if its really close to the beginning of the month and with this major change they might cancel it for this month

HA HA HA HA HA!!! I think a few more people are willing to lend their fingers too, lol.
 
I just phoned to cancel.

The agent said that it's too late to cancel for May as they require 30 days notice.

I expressed my anger at the timing of the notice and the unethical nature of such timing.
I also mentioned that since they're making changes to a service which would impact the client's decision to continue utilising such a service, he/she should be given ample time to cancel.
I asked to be put through to a manager, after which being put on hold, was told that it would fine as long as I sent through the cancellation form immediately.

Well played! I might have been more forceful too but I wasnt sure what was happening last month.

Considering how they treat their customers I cant see why anyone would want to stay with them even if local wasnt an issue.
 
So who are you guys switching for local only? I'd prefer SAIX, Openweb had a fairly good price of about R130 for 30GB, not sure if that's still available.

/me goes off to see what accounts tehre are.
 
R130 for 30gb still isn't that hot. That's only about 5 or 6 HD movies :( Anyone else with bigger caps or uncapped local?

R130 for 30gb accounts are still available with OpenWeb, but it's an IS solution

The truth is that you're not really gonna find any great local-only SAIX deals around, and it's gonna cost a penny if you wanna download as much as you have been on MWEB.

So basically the Telkom Do3 package - 4mb line, 3gb international and 30gb local is the best bet?
 
Also phoned lunchtime and said I emailed my cancellation form this morning. Asked if they will bill for May and she said no it will be canceled end of April
 
At R100 for 10gb, I may as well buy Blu Ray movies from Amazon on their 3for2 deal (about R120 a bluray movie) instead of downloading mkv files.

The irritating thing about those accounts is that, the local only bandwidth is only 'useful" after you've capped your international.
 
Sorry for you mweb users, but guys, I want to suggest that this will open the door for telkom to do the same. seeing that it's the de facto industry standard, in that another major player, ie mweb, is doing this, telkom could claim that it is also allowed to do the same.

TelkomInternet already did this to their users, it's MWEB who's following their lead.

TI never used to charge for local bandwidth, and all of a sudden, users were subject to 10gb, 20gb and 30gb local caps, and were charged thereafter.

Yeah, but I only really want local. It seems like this all in one deal is better than separately paying for line rental and an account.

Question: Say I have a 4mb line in my place, can I run two separate accounts on two different PCs at the same time? i.e. I use Openbrowse's 30gb local package, and my flat mate uses their international 1gb account.

Yes - just put your router in bridged mode and initiate the pppoe connection from each computer.
