MWEB - Message from CEO - Acceptable Use Policy

Got a call a few minutes ago from M-Web. "Dear sir. You have been flagged as a power-user and we will sent an e-mail to you during the day in which we ask you to move over to a much more expensive product cause you download to much and we don't make enough money out of you"

Ok that is not what they said exactly but that is basically it. Wonder what is in the letter.....

Okay, this is the first indication of where MWeb's pain point is - you reached 350GB's on your uncapped and received a notification....

but even at 350gb...that's only like 30% of the line capacity, so what's the problem?

Hi All

The issue is not so much around the amount of usage but rather what a customer is using their ADSL line for and how they are using the internet and if this is appropriate and in-line with our Terms & Conditions.

It wasn't 350GB's - it was a lot more,read the posts.
Guys lets be clear on this,It is not about the amount of GB's you download each month but the MANNER in which you download them.
OK just saw MWEB mans post above!

Can someone post the manner in which I can us my connection - or link to that - preferable a straight forward English explanation.

Can we please have a POWER user account that fits in in between your basic shaped and unshaped products. With cherries on top.

These already exist in the market, ones like the Axxess Express + or Openwebs Gold. Double Mwebs shaped cost but still half the addict cost.

But that's the thing. Openweb GOLD looks exactly what I'm looking for. Just changing ISPs is a schlep...

In your terms and conditions you don't mention any limitation only that the package must be used for the home user. I am a home user which download data for my own use, no internet cafe or hosting. What i download and how much is my business. So bugger off!

The following is on their products page (uncapped) R539 for the data:

Broadband ADSL: Uncapped
Use as much data as you like
FAST always-on Internet access
Phone and surf the web at the same time
Pay a fixed monthly price
Ideal for video calling, downloads and running a small office

Nou is ek dom of wat? Hier staan ek kan mal gaan.... Use as much data as you like. I want to use 1TB a month.

Hey Jack I'm with you 110% If heavy downloading wasn't allowed they should have clearly stated it on their product page.

It's not the usage that apears to be the issue.

But, Mweb you also do not have the right to police his content. Be wary of what you do here.

I had a browse on MWEB's product page AGAIN...seems like the 50th time today...and I noticed that the cheapie (R539) uncapped account and the Internet Addict account both have links to MWEB's T&C's, which I noticed are EXACTLY the same T&C's for BOTH types of accounts, which tells me that WHATEVER the guys are using who has Internet Addict accounts (p2p downloading software), is perfectly acceptable for the normal shaped uncapped accounts. The only real difference I see between the 2 accounts are the lower contention ratios on the Internet Addict account, and the fact that the Internet Addict account has no shaping at all.

wow I'm really learning a lot today :D just have to keep your eyes open :)

Sure they can, If they don't get caught. :P

The fact remains, if your ISP feels you are doing anything they don't like, they are well within their rights to deny you service and are not obliged to provide you with an explanation.

Unilaterel denial of service is grounds for a discrimation case. There has to be a valid reason, acceptable to industry standards, hence why I said, "be wary".

back again to the original question...what is it we do that they don't like?

The service they selling isn't "give us SOME moneyz and we'll give you SOME internetz"

The rules and regulations should be clearly stipulated, and because we're paying a fixed amount, we should expect nothing less that what was ADVERTISED, because that's why I went to MWEB in the first place. And before anybody comes with that BS about putting a burdon on the network etc blah blah toothpaste...go have a read through the T&C's...then browse over to the INTERNET ADDICTS's T&C's (like I mentioned couple of minutes ago)...it's EXACTLY the same.

Lol not quite at Ajules. Maybe i should go Jack Bauer on them....

I'll gladly cancel my account but the fact remains we, as the consumer, are being bullied and lied to everyday of our lives. Don't promise me something that you don't want to deliver.
