MWEB reduces uncapped ADSL prices

thanks for the quick feedback! we're not high end users and i see telkom has a 1meg line package, with 10gigs per month at R499 pm, which includes all line rental (voice as well). that would work out slightly cheaper if you only need 8 to 10 gigs?

Rather take the advanced one...

I think its R540 for a 4mb line with 20gb int & 30gb local caps.

I have the same setup. Downgraded from 4meg uncapped to 1 meg, and kept my 4 meg line just to test how often i use 4 meg (capped data) if it's 4 gigs a month it's a lot. So going to downgrade line speed now too. All about the money.

Mweb is now charging R199.00pm for their 1mps uncapped .....
In a few months, Telkom may go from 1mbps > 2mbps ....

Does that mean that maybe by year end, you're paying R199.00 for 2mbps?
 
With MWEB doing this I think MickeyD's prediction (It was MickeyD if I remember correctly, if not please correct) that we will see a lot of consolidation in the ADSL market as the margins will be too thin for any smaller providers - they won't have enough Mom&Pops vs internet junkies to balance cost vs usage where big guys like MWEB can.

It is just interesting to see how MWEB by having taken a long view on the ADSL environment have really dominated the space. By pushing uncapped at cheap prices they have aggressively targeted market share above anything else which actually allows them to provide a better service level.

I'm guessing that MWeb will bring out a 2Mb uncapped account in addition to the 1Mb but you'll still see a slight increase in throughput (10% - 15% maybe) on a 1Mb uncapped account running on a 2Mb line.

Great deal from MWeb though, kudos to them :)
 
This is really good from mweb.

Wont telkom be upgrading 384kbps to 1mbps in +-2 months time?

How much does it cost to cancel a telkom ADSL contract?

ADSL is beginning to look more and more attractive these days... when compared to the mobile data options... let's see where things are when my 8ta 10gb/m promo contract comes to an end... maybe ADSL will be an option!

Mweb = Value for money.

Well done again to MWeb - driving the way forward with actions not words.

Would be nice to see a leeetle drop tho' - especially (selfish 'ol me) since I don't actually get 4meg - due to distance from exchange I get 3meg with occasional bursts through to higher speed.
 
Are there plans to reduce the price of the 10Mbps package for home users? The R1999 p/m burns quite a hole in the pocket.

This has been their strategy for a long time - in fact since they got into the ISP market (in the old days of the Big Black Box and even prior). Kudos to them - a geniunely long term view recognising that the internet is not a fad that will disappear and therefore needing to be profited off in the short term.

A genuinely long term view - a rare commodity that!
 
Damn, i must admit that Mweb caught everyone with their pants down. i am considering to also drop my line speed down to 1meg. standard of living nowadays is very high. F$%@#$in Telkom is at fault for me paying so much for internet. does anybody know hoe Mweb's 1 meg account perform for streaming from 6PM to midnight.
