Mweb throttling becoming unbearable?

I am getting pissed myself with 4mb uncapped offering, its as sloowww as mud. I only used 24g last month, which I am sure is well below being "abuse".

My line sync's constantly at:

Data Rate
5024 512 kbps

If it dont change by the end of the week, I am going to a different ISP! I get a free 1Gig of data from FNB every month for having a cheque account with them, low and behold I get a full 5mb on a speed test and not an average of 100k as with mweb. grrrr! :twisted:

I dont expect it to go faster than 4mb, I saw the press release. I would be happy with a stable 250k ffs! I was updating my XBMC from the ppa.launchpad.net site and never saw a shade over 20k. Switched to FNB and it came flying down at 500k.

You got somebody on the inside??

Buy a unshaped product... you get what you pay for...

thats exactly what i think, if i can even do 35GB a month (which i can easily do) i am getting a major discount compaired to capped services

And here we all thought EASSy was gonna help with additional bandwidth ...

International bandwidth isn't the only problem. Telkom needs to upgrade the links between them and MWEB so customers can get to MWEB's network, and well, it's Telkom we're talking about. Also, additional bandwidth to the three cable systems means additional bandwidth have to be supplied to get data to the landing stations. This is dependant on whichever network you use for backhaul traffic.

No international link will help if there's not sufficient local infrastructure to support them.

General HTTP, mostly international news sites, linux repo's like ppa.launchpad.net, za.archive and youtube.

Get a top speed of 20k when going international and around 100k local.

"We do not throttle we shape our shaped products" - either should not be happening - upgrade your network - It is simple, build the road and the traffic will come - what could be simpler?

You Get what you pay for, You Chose a Shaped 4MB UnCapped Package ...
If you want to go crazy and DL the whole internet then Get the UnShaped service ...
Easy Simply .. Done

Buy a unshaped product... you get what you pay for...

I am thinking the same, I would rather go for a top-notch service and am willing to pay for it. I am not money pinching here. I use the 120mb link at office to download torrents and other big files. Would like a decent responsive browsing experience at home. I believe that is what the offering is targeting?

We've got multiple uncapped *unshaped* MWEB 4096 accounts and they all suck. FTP timeouts, SSH timeouts, connections on cpanel/WHM ports timing out. And this is from multiple locations, so line problems can be ruled out.

Switch to our backup Telkom or Webafrica (or even 3G!) accounts and the problems disappear. This is extremely frustrating, because we pay a lot for these "unshaped" connections.

Having worked extensively with packeteer, iproute2 and qdisc token based traffic shaping I dont trust speedtest.net as its in the ISP advantage to prioritize these. When I get home I will paste up some smoke ping, wget and udp/tcp throughput tests for your scrutiny to the sites which I use mostly. This is more "real world" to me than a "speedtest".

WebAfrica Titan Complete 2. 25GB data at up to 10Mbps with R15/gig top-up for R599 (ADSL line rental included). My usage has been sub 30 GB/month lately so it's definitely an option.

Multiple MWEB InternetAddict / Business UnCapped UnShaped 4096kbps

No Idea then, don't have any experience with these.
Would think they would offer an improvement, but i would guess the Network Infrastructure is limted then..

Another company has 4x 4mb Telkom UnShaped Lines Bonded etc ..
They're seems ok from what i hear, not sure if it's capped ..

Our home 384kbps UnCapped Shaped is performing very well with General Browsing, Occasional Downloading. So Far 3GB for the Month.
Seems alot more stable and faster strangely from a User perspective ...
Than our 5GB Capped 512kbps AllInclusive Account

MWEB only shape they're shaped services, which is in agreement with what you signed up for.

this i guess this is also related to the CT issue of "slow" mweb looking at your location.
