You were contacted by our abuse team

*AFTER* the account was suspended and the matter was escalated to the AM, I was contacted telephonic, yes. Not even one warning email was sent. I am *still* waiting for someone to tell me when, where, and to whom those emails was sent... I am also still waiting for someone to explain to me how 20GB of usage on an business ADSL account, was considered 'excessive usage'...

the issue was that the business account could not be used at a black listed DN

Your AUP makes *NO* mention that telephone numbers are black listed - neither was ANY shaping 'circumvented'. Your AUP does however indicated that ACCOUNTS may be suspended... As I said, formal policy and process please... Documented, in public domain.

Either way, not concerned about it anymore, the issues was resolved and we'll happily continue to use the until the next magical problem pops up.

Savage we listed the DN that was linked to your home accounts (personal account). The 2nd home account sign up, you processed online after we cancelled your first account for abuse. This had nothing to do with the business account.

We did not list the Business DN or cancel the business account at any stage. The account is still active.

Savage I did a bit of digging and found that we cancelled your first account for abuse, you then decided to go online and sign up another account.

This is against our terms and conditions, therefore we cancelled the 2nd account before you had the chance to abuse it :D

Hahaha, GG mweb!!

800gig for a 4mb shaped account is really excessive and in no way acceptable.
I think the solution is twofold:
1. Stop using the misleading label 'uncapped'. Come up with something better like 'flexible cap' or 'large cap'.
2. Re-implement capping and simply cap anyone that exceeds the 'acceptable' number of gigs. Alternatively throttle them to death like other people do. Why have grey areas where people are not too sure how many gigs they can get away with before getting cut off and banned for life?

MWEB wont tolerate any one who tries to maximise returns or squeeze out maximum from their line.
They want only use few GIGS i.e 1-200 gb max (ideally)and leave enough room for new customers.I know there are lots of people doing hundreds of gigs monthly but eventually they all will get blacklisted since they are all under radar each and every day.
You cant get true uncapped in South Africa without an AUP for the price we pay at the moment. These accounts are not for heavy downloaders rather for some one who download few games or movies monthly.

What do you download cause I can't think of the amount of stuff to download that you have to do it 24/7. The only thing I can think of is Porn :p

http://www.mweb.co.za/legalpolicies/GeneralPage/AcceptableUsePolicy.aspx

From your own faq page ..

How can you call it uncapped if there's a base cap?

There is NO base cap. This applies only to our CAPPED products.

Uncapped = uncapped, no less than that. Our terms and conditions cover all our ADSL products (both capped and uncapped) so those references to ‘base cap’ or ‘cap’ refer only if you choose to signup to our capped products.

Please explain how you can advertise a product with no cap, yet come on here and say 800gig is unacceptable. It's uncapped, apart form your shaping there should be no limit on the amount of bandwidth used. You say so yourself ..

You know I will also ban you if you download 24/7 at full speed. That's just wrong

Just use some common sense. Use your discernment. It's obvious that 800gigs is excessive.
I have not used that amount since they started with this product. Jeez :wtf:

Wimps!

This is just the usual bs - buy our uncapped product and enjoy yourself, but note that it is reely a capped product, and if you go over our secret limit that we cannot announce for fear of being taken to the ASA for lying about being uncapped, we will terminate your account chop-chop.

Not really .. please show me the section in that AUP page that MWEB Guy linked to dealing with an upper limit of ~800gigs. How are we to know what they 'consider' too much if they don't specify?

My whole point was that MWEB says 'Use as much as you like .. as long as you don't contravene the AUP' yet there is nothing about an upper limit in the AUP. They say they will shape you to ensure fair usage for all users, which we have all accepted, but they never said there's a limit on the amount used that they consider excessive.

Please explain that MWEB.

800GB is probably not unacceptable, but I'm pretty sure that the user avoided the shaping rules by tunnelling his downloads through SSL connections or using strange TCP/UDP ports.

If the user is going to be downloading 400GB+ on a 4Mbps account, he should be getting an unshaped/business uncapped account - or like OpenWeb Gold Uncapped.

It's so easy to spot the people who have never left the country, or know anyone who stays in a first world country.

In Ireland the 100mb uncapped has a 500gb cap. Previously there was a 250gb fair usage policy. It happens everywhere.

BLACKLIST THEM ALL!!!
Lol, think about it logically, if you pay 599 for 800gb that's 75c a gb! Do you really think that is sustainable for mweb?? Gtfo, you're not capable of rational thinking.

What is the point of comparing a first world country's internet patterns / usage to our third world country?

What on earth do you do with your line that you require 800gb of data? Even if you download bucket loads of illegal movies in HD, you will not have enough time to watch them all. Or is it just simply, I want to download as much as I can, because I can?

bla bla bla. I WANT 800GB for my R539 i paid... Even though 2 years ago, i was still paying R50 odd for 1GB...

Do some conservative calculations... R9/gb (around the best price you can get for 1gb capped) X 800gb = R7200.
You want to pay for a service that must be flawless, always up and available, but you aren't willing to pay what its worth? Give me a break.

I consider myself a rather heavy downloader, and the most I have done in a month is 450gb's way back when Mweb just brought out the uncapped revolution. That took some doing to get that kind of usage. Now I do between 100 and 300gb a month and have almost run out of storage.

Mweb blacklisted you, and you deserve it.

If you want to do 1tb+- a month, get an account that allows for it, hell, sort out your own diginet line but dont come here and b1tch about Mweb. COMMON SENSE dictates that anything north of 600GB is a lot and becoming excessive.
