MWEB Uncapped ADSL and shaping

Please feel free to read up on Shaping, you seem to be braindead

At this point MWeb has the only uncapped consumer account worth considering on the market it's that simple. Always on internet with prioritized HTTP is the way to go. Now if they could just prioritize the IP's of the major gaming servers then I think 99.99% of the market would be happy.

Have you ever wondered why shaping was implemented in the first place?, no take a moment, think about it carefully.

Looks like a post specifically created to upset people, not very nice. Also not very informed, Mweb is very much aware of heavy downloaders and therefore employ shaping during the day to combat excessive downloading and maintain a great quality of service. Heavy downloading therefore does not interfere with daytime business operations and at night heavy downloaders compete between each other for downloading bandwidth. So if you do not download how can any of this affect you?

The slow downs to normal browsing lately was caused due to technical problems and not downloading, ask any downloader how was their experience during this troublesome period and they'll quickly tell you it was very slow.

And there is never any cause to go call anyone names and especially in red capitalized font.
"and at night heavy downloaders compete between each other for downloading bandwidth. So if you do not download how can any of this affect you?"

Lol, so its like the wild west on the interwebs? every user for him self ? Please explain to me how this does not affect me? Are you high ?

Ofcourse it affects me, Shaping is in place because of these greedy pigs, I have very high pings during the weekend and nights because of the crazy amount of leaching going on.
Why do I have to suffer because of the gluttony of these users.

Why not call people names that are directly affecting my internet experience because of their greed ? sounds about right to me.

LOL joy they brought out uncapped internet for high usage users not your average surfing email person :D

You are more than welcome to buy the capped low usage accounts, they would be perfect for you joy. Not sure why people want uncapped internet to use 3 gb a month :D.

Whats amazing is the lengths certain people go to in order to justify their excessive bandwidth leeching.

Exactly, people get what they pay for, do you honestly think that ISP's can effectively subsidize everyones uncapped bandwidth if most of them were
Wtf-Downloading-teh-LEETpirat3d-Torr3nts
At the competetive prices they are currently offering in this very Bandwidth starved continent? Hey? Please wake up.

These bandwidth pigs raping the ISP's are being greedy, throw them out on their ass so that the rest of use can use the internet in peace.

Get a life. Your intelligence really shines in your posts with constant name calling.

Its UNCAPPED - if you don't want UNCAPPED - get a CAPPED account - this basic principle seems to elude you.

Imagine a restaurant with a beer tap at every table. You pay a fixed amount and it is advertised as "bottomless". However, after the 2nd mug, you notice the beer is coming out slower. After the 3rd mug, the beer is only coming out in a trickle and it takes about 30 minutes to fill the mug. Wouldn't you call it false advertising???

Imagine a restaurant with a beer tap at every table. You pay a fixed amount, say R50, and it is advertised as "bottomless" alternatively you can pay on a per mug basis, say R15 per mug. However, after the 2nd mug, you notice the beer is coming out slower. After the 3rd mug, the beer is only coming out in a trickle and it takes about 30 minutes to fill the mug.

By the end of your beer drinking session you have finished off 7 mugs of beer over a period of 3 hours and it only cost you R50 on the "bottomless".

Alternatively you could have paid R105 (more than double) just to down all 7 consecutively, get totally smashed, crawl out of the pub and into the street where a friendly neighborhood police van gladly escorts you to the cells where you spend the night along with other friendly "downloaders" who would likes to "upload" something via your rear USB port.

I'll take the bottomless option thank you very much.

Has anyone tried going to mugg and bean and ordering a cup of bottomless coffee and sitting there from 8am to 8pm? R50 says you'll be asked to leave

oh, like all you can eat restaurants? the fact that i can't take the food home means they're guilty of false advertising, right?

Hahahahaha classic and very well put :D

WTF is up with Mweb today. "We do not shape" BS. Entire internet connection is SO SLOW today. P2P is hardly getting 20KB and this is a 4mb uncapped account. I'm sorry, but this is ridiculously slow. Really have to wonder if this is ever going to get off the ground.

Whom ever told you uncapped accounts are not shaped was trying to joke with you. We all know it is shaped because we are not paying thousands for it.

Shape 12 hours a day unshaped 12 hours a day

12 hours of 4 meg 300KB/s amount to a kuk load of downloads.

Buddy dude bro. I have a question for you? WTF do you think that you getting 12 hours of unshapped internet at night?

It is not working like that

You know what I have noticed, if I'm sitting at the PC browsing, my downloads go faster... /puts on tin foil hat.

Great to see the amount of support MWEB is getting with its uncapped offerings.
Pity about the eejits who don't understand the reality of business.
In spite of the bandwidth limitations, Telkom, etc in this country, MWEB is flourishing with this product and from the sound of things, continue improving on it.
Think back a couple months, then a year, then 2 or 5 years.. And see how far we've come despite all the uphill battles.
We're not there yet, but at least the journey to affordable bandwidth has actually finally started.

Lino it works like that for me, i dunno how it works all i know is i will start like 9-10gb's at say 6 or 7 at night and by the morning it is complete. Might be different for 384/512 cause it goes slow, so i am not sure why are shaping the slower lines.

It's all about numbers, volume, and load balancing IMO. There are probably many times more users on 384K packages than 4Mbps packages, so there has to be proportional shaping of each package. Otherwise there would be no justification for paying R899pm vs R219pm, and everyone would be equally slow...

Well, over the past 2 days my mweb 4096 uncapped has been beyond terrible. First off browsing is much much slower then it used to be, p2p used to get 150KB/S during the day now its literally 25kB/s constant at night its no more then 180KB/s usually it would be full speed at night. Gaming is also pretty bad on it. So there is definitely something wrong. They must have gotten far stricter on shaping but that doe not explain why all my http traffic is so slow. It's not my adsl line because if I login to my telkomsa shaped account I get full speed on just about every service(p2p included). Are they having network trouble? because this is truely unacceptable.
