MWEB Uncapped ADSL and shaping

Something has happened in the last week or two. I am downloading a torrent on a 4mb uncapped line and it is P2P but come on 7kb/s, I am the only one using it. Even at home on my 384K line I get 30 to 50 Kb/s. When I first got it downloads touched 170Kb/s. I hope it is not going to stay at these slow speeds else I will have to look again - but where?

THe slow down and shaping is a direct result caused by the excessive downloading of torrents by greedy leechers.Take comfort in the fact that you greedy bandwith fuks are destroying the experience for everyone else.Well done.

PIGS

Please feel free to read up on Shaping, you seem to be braindead

At this point MWeb has the only uncapped consumer account worth considering on the market it's that simple. Always on internet with prioritized HTTP is the way to go. Now if they could just prioritize the IP's of the major gaming servers then I think 99.99% of the market would be happy.

I dunno - I'm finding MWEB a lot more pleasant than Afrihost... and my speeds have probably only been unbearable on two/three occasions.

I know I should be getting 480KBs/ - but I'm reasonably happy with DOWNLOADS going at 100-200KB/s.

I'm on 384kb uncapped with mweb and I'm pretty happy with the download speeds. Go mweb

I am very happy with MWEB too. We use it at the office in place of a Vodacom 4mb uncapped (shaped). The Vodacom account cost us R2500 per month. Mweb - R529. Speed difference? Immense. Vodacom can't compare. So I'm happy. We have 26 people at our office and I still maintain a torrent server with a scheduled limiter. Total transfers up and down this month: 230Gb. MWEB rocks. Period.

We can download torrents from private trackers at +- 150kb/s during the day. Not bad. That leaves enough headroom that nobody complains about the net being slow. So the shaping is cool in a way for us. Saves our IT department a lot of work.

I am more than reasonably happy, i am over the farking moon to be totally honest :D

539 bucks for so much bandwidth and no worries about line speed being cut or anything!!!!!!!! If someone had told me this 4 months ago i would have laughed at them and asked what kind of drugs they were on :D

No problems with Mweb

I have had Mweb uncapped for nearly 2 months now. Other than the weekend that the Seacom cable went down I have had NO problems. My only problem is with TELKOM (as usual) who I pay to for an "UP TO 4Mbs. I never get more than 1.5Mbs!!. Well I suppose they say "UP TO" so I am lucky to get more than .001Mb. Perhaps we should pay prorata for the speed Telkom provide.
I use my uncapped line to watch UK via SLINGBOX from the UK. This gives me as much pleasure as I will get when I can dump Telkom cos it means I was able to cancel my Multichoice sub and deprive them of my money for the rip off service they give (and it is cheaper).

I have been with MWEB for all most 15 years and have not had a days problem GREAT COMPANY GREAT SERVICE!!

I have to say that MWEB have been fantastic. So far this month I have pulled down 190GB. I have not pulled down every day but have pulled down when the mood has been there. My max pulled down in 1 day is 25GB.

Below are my stats per day with MWEB. Please note that all figures are in mb.

I must admit though, I do have my own server in the Netherlands with a 100mb/s connection. I pull my torrents down to this server and then download them via http through my MWEB account at 420kbps.

Lovin MWEB.

Ok, I admit it, I stuck up for MWEB with P2p, but DOWNSTORM? FFS MWEB NOW YOU HAVE GONE TOO FAR!

MWEB you stated that HTTP would be fine, but P2P would be shaped. Downstorm IS NOT P2P but HTTP!

FFS!

Well if people kept the service underground rather than opening threads about it maybe they wouldn't have caught on so quickly.

Do you think mweb are blind? They can see where traffic is moving from surely.

The account says it is not a 24/7 downloading account, buy the more expensive package, i just cannot grasp why pulling 7-10gb on a 4 meg line a day is bad. Why do people need to download pirated goods at full speed 24/7? Mweb is not around to supply us pirates with bandwidth, they have others they need to think of. I would rather they shape the shyte out anything that could make the network slow during work hours. There are more expensive packages available for this. So cough up if you want 24/7 downloading.

I am happy to pull 10gb a night, could not care less if my torrents and nzb's are slow during the day. Not sure why they limit the 384/512 guys.

What do people use downstorm for other than to pull pirated goods lino? Does it have any other use? So while it is http it is also a pirate network? They are more than likely that http nzb site as well. Glad i gave that skip and settled for downloading at night :D. How slow is downstorm now?

I got 11gb lined up tonight will see how it went tomorrow morning :D

This is based on an earlier comment by "lordnox" or something to that effect, the dude with 4 adsl lines. As a customer of MWEB's (and I say this in spite of really dodgy service tonight), I've had a bumpy start relating to some uncommon issues, but MWEB was easy to get hold of and sorted out as well as assisted with every complaint and problem I had, and that includes Rudi Jansen himself responding to my frustrations on the "Free The Web" group on Facebook.

For a company as large as MWEB is, they are efficient, I find it unusually surprising and pleasant to see on a forum like this, SO MANY compliments towards them, and yes not everyone can always be happy and at some point I might be disgruntled as well, but so far I've seen many complaints, had my own, and they've come to my aid every time. They are in touch with their clients, they have FANTASTIC personal service, especially when things go wrong, and they are not afraid to come out into the storm to try and explain things such as with this article.

When you make a media statement on an issue as 'contraversial' as this, you're going to come under heavy fire and you know it. They did it anyway, and when I clicked to read the comments I was expecting much more negativity than I found - that reassures me as a customer that they really are the best out there with uncapped, and that we forget so quickly what our internet lives were like before uncapped.

MWEB you guys have served me well, and I am thrilled to see you not only pushing the standard but being human through it all. Pity about the people who cannot be pleased (or be practical), I do hope they switch to one of your competitors soon so we can use what used to be their share!

LOL apart from seacom problems mweb runs fast, they limit us during the day and at night we go mad but i have not noticed the network taking strain. You should think before you post :D

The difference between mweb and afrihost is afrihost just changed their T & C every day without telling people. They got caught out for not informing anyone. Mweb have said there is no limit and thus far they are sticking with it. Mweb is by far the best uncapped solution. Odd that a company with such a bad rep prior to uncapped has changed the interwebs in SA to international standards, now if telkom would upgrade 384 and 512 to 1 meg that would be the icing on the cake :D

Amazing how mweb struggling for a few days brought out the daggers :D.

Whats amazing is the lengths certain people go to in order to justify their excessive bandwidth leeching.

Dude, people pay a LOT of money for their Internet, they should be able to use what they pay for in whichever way they want. Simple as that. Nobody tells you how to use your Internet, so why don't you just let the ISP worry about the heavy users, ok?

Edit: Sorry, I was trying to be nice, but seriously, you're an a$$

Exactly, people get what they pay for, do you honestly think that ISP's can effectively subsidize everyones uncapped bandwidth if most of them were
Wtf-Downloading-teh-LEETpirat3d-Torr3nts
At the competetive prices they are currently offering in this very Bandwidth starved continent? Hey? Please wake up.

These bandwidth pigs raping the ISP's are being greedy, throw them out on their ass so that the rest of use can use the internet in peace.
