MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

The above news article states that MWEB, along with other ISP's, will be lowering the price of their throttled products. I would like to know, currently I am on MWEB's 4 Mbps Uncapped AI deal @ R899 per month. Is this the throttled product?

If not, what are the technical differences between the two?

If it is, will I automatically be bumped down to the new price? As my current product listing says R899 per month, but the new pricing is already established at R689 per month. Additionally there is a foot note for when you want to sign up on the new product which says:

MWEB reserves the right to throttle the ADSL service on the 2Mbps and 4Mbps line speed packages based on individual usage patterns and usage history.

So I am led to believe that my product is a throttled product.

Hi MWEB Guy

Please could you have a look at my account. Download speeds are VERY intermittent and literally crawling or dead most of the time.

I'm on a 2mb line and this is the speed I was getting with a direct download through IE:

Here is a tracert to mweb.co.za:

Hi

The throttled product is a new product all together.
It has no effect on your current product and you will not be downgraded unless you request to be downgraded.

Hi EtTA

Please could you inbox me your account info so that I may look into this for you.
Please incluse where (url) you were downloading from, I'd like to test it on my side.

Thanks

Hi, I'm currently on the 2Mbps uncapped premium account. I'm thinking of moving to another ISP because of the price.
I also have the free uncapped hosting. What will happen to the hosting if I cancel my Adsl? Is there a way I can still keep the hosting?

Hi Awesum

Have you considered our new packages?

You can still keep the hosting product.

Telkom will say anything to be lazy. All the reports on this forum I have seen of congestion have one thing in common: High latency from the first hop. This is not the case here.

More people that agree with me my line problem is not congestion.

When I decided to go with all-inclusive uncapped I thought it was a great idea because if I ever have a line problem Mweb would fight with Telkom on my behalf. I was sorely mistaken it seems. You guys have just been gobbling up the nonsense that Telkom tells you, and here I am months later still with the same problem.

I dont want to be throttled. I'm very happy with the uncapped premium I have, but I can save R160pm for the same thing elsewhere.

Hi Soulcode

I will follow up on this from our side and let you know what my findings are.

I checked on our side andthe latest feedback we have is that the current issues you are having is linked to a Network Fault. The exchange is also full, so there is no option to move to you a different port or exchange.

What network fault? Do you and Telkom finally agree the problem is not due to congestion?

I will request for our team to contact you regarding the information. They will be able to provide you with more feedback.

They phoned me with the same bull**** as the last 4 months. The more I tell her the exchange is NOT congested, the more she tells me Telkom says it is congested. USELESS!

There are plenty of ISP's providing free trial accounts. Try a few an see if the problem is your line or ISP.

Right, so I'm having a problem logging into EVE Online using MWEB. As soon as I log in, it tells me the socket has been closed. If I test with an MTN, 8ta or Vodacom 3G stick it logs in fine. Using a backup ISP account it logs in fine. This wasn't affecting me a week or so ago. What has changed in the MWEB environment?

Hi Xennox

I'm not aware of any changes but I will follow up with our gaming admins.
I will let you know what feedback they provide me.

Before I do that, could you please also PM me on which servers you play.

So i checked up on my mweb adsl package when i heard about the new telkom rates.

Firstly, it turns out ive been reamed for the past few months because ive been paying R488 per month for 1meg uncapped but the advertized price is R339 ???

Called the help desk to upgrade my account to the new 2meg uncapped at R449 and after holding for about half an hour i was told in a 20 second conversation that i must send an e-mail to make the change (couldnt mweb mention this on their web site under the 'you may be eligible for an upgrade' section? it will save their customers a lot of time and phone costs)

I specifically mentioned in the e-mail that i want the 2meg at R449 but i just checked my account status and i am on the 'premium' R599 package.

I checked the speed on this 'premium' package and only get 1.7meg how much slower will it be on the non premium?

mweb have lost the plot, TELKOM HERE I COME...

My account was eventually sorted out to the 2mbs throttled package and it seems mweb have already started to throttle me after downloading about 30gig of torrents. when i am logged into my mweb account a get a total torrent download of about 20kB/s but if i log into a WA trial account the same torrents download at almost full line speed ~190kB/s. I have tried this a number of times with the same result.

Is it possible that the throttle threshold could be so low? if so, there is no way people will use this product when other ISPs are offer an unthrottled service at almost the same price....

I was thinking of going on the 449pm 2mb uncapped.

30gb is so low.

Anyone else on it to provide feedback or perhaps mweb guy could let us know what an acceptable download usage for the month in order to prevent throttling?

100gb, 200gb or what?
