Thank goodness for my Afrihost backup account - very poor management from Mweb
I'm not getting dream speeds from WebAfrica or Afrihost, but at least they can surf.

Except I think Afrihost are stricter with how much you abuse the account, that's at least the message I got when i last phoned them.

Afrihost are pretty clear about what you get with the business accounts:
- Office hours totally unshaped
- After hours shaped, preference given to business customers over home uncapped customers, and they explicitly aim to have the account effectively unshaped 24/7
- Seven day rolling window of about 65% utilisation before 50% throttling. 4mb account is 180GB. That's 720GB a month, and over a terabyte on the 6Mbps I'm getting on Monday. I typically do between 350GB and 450GB a month.
- Priority customer support
Compared to Mweb's Premium, that seems like a cracking deal. You've got to be a huge pirate to need more than 65% of your connection's capacity at 4+Mbps.

Does sound good I must say - and what's the price differential?

So if I do just under 180GB a week I won't be throttled?
I'm not a heavy abuser or anything, when I last phoned them for the policy it was much stricter. Granted this was several months ago.
...
I cant open any sites besides Mybroadband and youtube....which is kinda pointless as no videos will actually load.

Please note that SEACOM have confirmed multiple breaks on multiple cables. This could take 2 to 3 weeks to fix.
We are obtaining capacity on an alternate cable, that should restore our network to full capacity within the next 24hrs.
Please bear with us during this time.
Why does Seacom keep doing this to me![]()

Hi Mweb Guy, will this alternate cable be shaped in any way more than what our mweb package already stipulates.
Good Afternoon, I do not have all the particulars at the moment. We will know more once the alternate capacity becomes available.
