I understand Seacom is down. But that does NOT explain the long list of websites timing out, twitter just to name one...

Brilliant timing... I went and bought 4 games on Steam last night. Still have about 20GB to download. Not gonna happen anytime soon it seems, sigh...

Time to find my old afrihost or webafrica details to try get something going.

I agree SAT3 is a much better fall back then the current POS we are on... Even downloading something as small as 500KB file is next to impossible...

What is this WACS we are on? Why don't we get routed through SAT3?

I think mweb made it up. I can't connect to anything on International traffic. Mweb doesn't have any redundancies but it doesn't stop them from trying to grow there customer base like a fat kid stuffing it's face. Like the hidden quote says "Best effort service" Should be the slogan under there logo

For all the guys toting Afrihost as the solution:

Does Afrihost actually have redundancy?

As far as I'm concerned they are 100% dependant on MTN and could easily suffer the exact same issue if MTN had a network failure.

Drives me F........g mad how incompetent these SA companies are.

Oh? Please tell me how MWEB or SEACOM are being incompotent? SEACOM had a cable break and are trying to repair the problem, in the meantime they're finding alternative capacity for their customers - MWEB being just one of them. MWEB is also trying to mitigate the fallout by finding alternative capacity for its users. MWEB does have redundancy, but it isn't 1:1. The costs of 1:1 redundancy would be ridiculous for most end users to afford.

The SEACOM issue is beyond MWEB's control, thus how are they being incompotent? SEACOM experienced multiple cable breaks so each break has to be repaired. How are they being incompotent? To be honest I think you're just over reacting for the sake of it. If you're listening to a call centre agent who probably has no expertise in the matter of cable repairs then its your own fault.

Don't get me wrong you need to call out bad service when its there, but as far as I'm concerned this isn't bad service its more like crisis control and mitigation of adverse effects.

SAT3 is owned by SAIX/Telkom.

I'm thinking of Afrihost prepaid while Mweb is having issues but I see a notice on Afrihost's site about slow international services.... can anyone confirm whether Afrihost is working OK or not?

Working ok for me here

We got Afrihost prepaid just to get work done. Works brilliantly. Just like with computers you should always have a backup.

WTF. Internet has been completely down from 8am. Have zero connectivity on mweb. Why is it that my friend on mweb can connect (on WACS) but mine isn't working at all?!
