MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

YouTube is pretty much dead for me. Struggling to watch stuff in 240p. I'm on 1MB Uncapped. I hope this gets sorted out. I've generally had good service from MWEB, but if things continue the way they are now, I will be canceling and trying my luck elsewhere. People I know on Telkom Internet and OpenWeb don't seem to be having any issues.

Browsing is insanely slow and http downloads going 100kb/s on my 4mb line :(

I'm going to switch to afrihost as soon as my 30 days notice is up.

Not to jinx it yet but my HTTP downloads are FLYING ATM, getting 740KB/s on my 10mb line, maybe im just lucky today...

I have noticed a few customers having this trouble.
We are currently investigating

I would like everyone to take a look at the terms of your ADSL line rental from Telkom. For the last three days I had almost no connectivity, so kudu's to them, they helped me today, on the phone to reset my port, test my line and I am happy to report I have a working internet line.

I asked the very friendly lady about my speed of the line and she asked me to run a speedtest on Saix.net. The results were 0.72 and 0.29. I said they were pretty bad and she said, no, they are within operating parameters. I asked her to explain and then the shoe dropped...

Please have a look at the web link above. As long as your line meet the minimum, Telkom does not consider your line faulty nor does it consider your exchange over utilised.

This is important for ISP's and users to understand and realise. I have read so many unhappy posts the last two days about line speed being slow and crappy service. Half of those posts will get erased if people understood what a 4mbps line really mean. It means you are guaranteed 640kbps download, 256kpbs upload. That is what you pay for. Everything else, that's gravy.

In my mind, we should stop imploring Telkom to lift the maximum, stop clapping hands when they do and start focusing on these minimums. I would also like to cost comparison being made internationally between the guarantee speeds and cost and I think people will realise we have slipped internationally.

That brings me to Mweb and were I am now with them. My usage have been sporadic. They offer you to down load a lot lot of data, but the browsing, streaming during normal hours is at time problematic. At present, I cannot open Zynga.com without reloading the page multiple times. This is not the case with two other accounts I have tested. So there is still an issue in there network or between me and them.

So the question is will this get better? or do I move to a cheaper uncapped product and buy a portion of capped usage for (dial-up) access? That I need to figure out.

I have the standard (not premium) MWEB uncapped package. My account reflects as "Throttled" after 45GB of usage for the month! I can get a bigger capped account for less money. My speedtest returns 0.1Mbps which is basically dial up speeds.

After all of this I decided to upgrade to the premium uncapped account however this is only going to be effective from 1 April. Call center agents could not help me to get my line usable for these few days despite the fact that I have been a paying customer of MWEB's for 4 years.

Definitely time to start exploring my options, MWEB is really losing the plot.

Internet is flying for me...

Not.

MWEB Guy

I have sent you my details in a PM, can you get your billing department to refund the latest debit order. I downgraded to email only and received confirmation SMS that it will be effective as on 1 April yet they have NOT downgraded me and proceeded to process another debit order for the full amount from my bank account:

MWEB Uncapped 4096 kbps m5972910 01/04/2013 30/04/2013 472.81 66.19

I will be going to the bank to have this reversed tomorrow but I am seriously peeved at MWEB. The hassles I had to go through to have this account downgraded and then when I get confirmation that it is downgraded I still get charged the full amount.

I will have a look now and escalate this for you.

Thank you all. In the end I drove through to their retail store in Canal Walk and completed the forms there. They assured me that even it is weekend it will be cancelled end April 2013.

Anyway, I have also downgraded to a 1gb account for April 2013. The next step will be to see if that was done yesterday, and two, the full debit order will run anyway, so it would be the battle to get my R510 back.

Can I share this beautiful metaphor with my fellow geeks. Every time I have walked past that Mweb store I thought, pretty hip for them, very Apple like, including the massive iMacs that is sitting on the desks of the consultants.

Turns out, they are iMacs, yes, but they run Windows 7 ;-)

@MWEB Guy -Any news on this? I'm also struggling and I'm on a 10MB uncapped line.

I presume they are investigating more excuses to explain their failure to deliver the service we pay a lot for.

Hi mr.B

What exactly are you having trouble with as each persons actual experience is different.

Some is having p2p or torrent issues, which can be explained due to the Seacom outage and these types of traffic will be more affected.
