Hi MWEB Guy

Is there any why I cannot upgrade my 1Mbps line to 2Mbps online? I can only upgrade to 4/10 Mbps.

Hi

If you'd like to upgrade to the 2Mbps service, drop me a pm with you account details.
I'll pass it along to the relevant persons on my side to process.

I'm getting like 20KBps on NNTP :wtf:

Hi Mike

I have checked your account and I see numerous disconnects on your account.
I also tested your line and your attenuation is extreamly high, currently on 63.5db.
This is more than enough to cause trouble with the quality of your connection.

I would advise contacting Telkom and asking them to log a fault for you to investigate the cause.

Just wanted to say thanks to MWEB Guy for quick response in assisting me and improving customer experience.

Big ups!

Mine is allso suddenly very slow, a router restart did not help.
Now down to 8KBps, switched to torrents and get up to 80.

EDIT: and now that is jumping up and down all the time.... the shaper on drugs or something?
EDIT2: Switched back to nntp, now up to 10-40...this because it's lunch hour for some people?

Hi MWEB Guy,

One step ahead of you :) I've been in contact with them for a few weeks now about the sync problems. However the SNR margin is still somewhat acceptable at about 7-8dB. Even through the sync problems, I have been able to get good speeds previously.

Tested a backup capped account this morning and I was still getting poor speeds, so the problem is definitely on the Telkom side, I'm hoping it's just related to maintenance being done due to the speed upgrades. Will keep you posted if I suspect anything to be wrong on the MWEB side.

Good Afternoon rambo919

Are you referring to news downloads specifically? What speeds are you obtaining? Have you tested another download?

Uhm binary downloads from usenet? That what you want to know? and atm I am getting 16-45KBps it seems. Other than torrents I havent done any other tests but just streamed from youtube and dispite a slight stutter at the beginning it streamed fine.

Just odd that nntp downloads come down at basically the same speed I got last week on 384 while torrents make waves of 20-80KBps

EDIT: have both nntp and torrents running at the same time now.... seems to make up the difference. Ok figured it out, seems to be cache related, recently started with an older bunch of articles, don't know the habits of the shaped 1MB so well yet.

I just remoted in to my home network and see that I'm getting 170 KBps again, so my issue was probably Telkom related.

Thanks for the feedback Mike, I hope they are able to resolve the issue ;)

Enjoy your day :)

Awesome :) .. glad you managed to find the fault and that its not us :p

Enjoy your downloading and your day :)

Just had a thought, uncached news server content comes down at a comfortable speed for 384 lines. This made sense previously because that was the entry level account. so... MWEB Guy.... are there any plans to upgrade your news servers to accommodate the new entry level speed? I'd hate to have to start using torrents for everything. Especially because of their new habit of randomly dying every day.

Get a premium news subscription for $10 per month for unlimited downloads. It's not like international bandwidth is an issue anymore, except when Seacom breaks.

If I could afford that I'd probably have a 2MB line instead of a 1MB.

How much do you download? You could get a 1,000GB block account from Astraweb for $50, and it never expires until you use it up. I got this about a year ago and I'm still using it - was on a 1meg line at the time, now 2meg.

My queue is about 300gb, getting a lot of classics you cant find anymore. Unfortunately I simply do not have any more money to spend on internet, it's just not there to give.

My international is very slow? Anyone else experiencing this? Its not the ping... something else ive never seen before! It's a mix of delay and slow download speeds!

Edit:

My local to now :( Cant even watch a youtube video, it also took 10min to open this page D:

Hi oliverwww

Are you just experiencing slow browsing overall? When you say mix of delay and slow downloading, what is happening?
