MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Hey Mwebguy, does something on the network change at 5pm? My RDP is now working all on it's own. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it stops again at some point.

Hi MWEBGUY,

I read a post about that an mweb user, Slartibartfast, was throttled after downloading a whopping 30GB's. He's on the 2MB throttled uncapped account.

Can you please shed some light on what exactly the throttling policies are and how/when they are enforced.

You can read the post on http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/505756-MWEB-Throttled-uncapped-ADSL-feedback

Hi Gboss

First off you need to look at the product itself and see what it was designed for.
The throttled products is for the moderate user who wants to have the benefit of uncapped adsl and plans to do casual browsing, emailing, online banking or sending small to medium attachments.

There is no limit to how much you can download and the throttling is based on your usage pattern for the last 30days.

RDP still working fine - just tested now. Thanks oom Ook and Anthro for offering to help troubleshoot. If there's some sort of accidental policy on my account, it'll no doubt show up on Monday again.

Hey Mweb Guy,

I am on the Mweb 4 meg uncapped premium account and here's a couple of problems I've been having recently:

Have to often switch resolutions on Youtube videos for them to play correctly. For example: at 360 they play for X amount of time and then stop loading. I must then switch to 480 until it finishes or freezes, at which point I must switch resolution again. This used to happen once in a while when I first joined Mweb, but now it's become far more frequent.

Incredibly inconsistent browsing during peak hours (like right now). Most of the time, when I get home between 2-3 PM, browsing speeds are incredibly varied. Sometimes websites won't even load. Again, this problem has just gotten worse recently (taking into account the recent Seacom downtime).

I know this are Mweb specific problems because when I switch to my free FNB Connect gigs (such as now for example), these problems disappear.

Can I get any feedback on these issues?

In support of Mweb Guy, who has always been helpful to me - it's not always your ISP. Mweb still relies on Telkom having properly functioning DSLAM's. Sometimes it's neither - it can be YOUR router, and YOUR software. It's a headache just sorting out your own equipment, let alone expecting Mweb to know what the hell is going on at YOUR end.

I know for a fact my DSLAM is faulty, but do you think I can get Telkom to replace it?

Hi MWG

Please can you take a look at my account.... there is a huge discrepancy between Telkom (1) and Mweb (2)

2) http://www.speedtest.net/result/2511050568.png

The servers I play on are US based, hence my problem.

Many thanks

What account do you have?

That would make sense if switching service providers didn't fix the problem. If it was a problem his side it would show across all his test results.

That's exactly why it makes sense - I always have a spare account to test things like this. ;)

Hi zolly

This is rather strange and worth look into.
Could you please PM me a a trace route to youtube as well as once to the MWEB site.
Ping results would also do, the more info I have the better.

Also, please include the same test from your FNB account for comparison.

Hi PhreeMe,

If it's not to much trouble, could you do the same test on the MWEB speed test?

Could you also please PM me with a trace route to the MWEB site and an international site.
Do the test with both the Telkom account and the MWEB account.

Thanks.

There is a really big problem with youtube on mweb. Its starting to get worse. Takes 3-4mins to load a 30sec clip.

I have tested a few your tube clips and I am unable to replicate your Trouble.

Tell me is it only you tube giving you trouble.

So far so good today - RDP working still. Monday will tell if there is something wrong during normal working hours.

Hi Arzy

Our team tested and could replicate the problem.

Since then, everything has been working fine. Please can you test from your side and let me know.

Silll having the same issue, turned my router off completely for about 20-30 minutes and tried again today. I still get an error message in D3 as soon as I try and login. Switch to Axxess without changing anything else and it connects without a hitch.

There is some serious gremlins at MWeb this month, I have not have a decent international for quite some time now. Local is fine, international is very poor.
